European Election Results .. due from 10 p.m. Sunday night...,

by Clarets4me
Due to the other European Countries voting on a Sunday, results can only be announced from 10 p.m. on Sunday night, and of course the BBC are running their usual Results programme ...
The last time these elections were held, in 2014, the seat share ( out of 73 ) and votes were as follows ....
U.K.I.P. 24 seats ( 4,376,635)
Labour 20 seats ( 4,020,646 )
Con. 19 seats ( 3,792, 549 )
Green 3 seats ( 1,136, 670 )
SNP 2 seats ( 389,503 )
Lib/Dem 1 seat ( 1,087,633 )
D.U.P 1 seat ( 131,163 )
S/F 1 seat ( 159,813 )
Plaid 1 seat ( 111,864 )
UUP 1 seat ( 83,438 )
Turnout was 35.7%, it was a historically bad night for the Lib Dems, losing all but 1 of their 11 MEP'S, the Conservatives lost 7 seats, and the BNP lost both of their seats ..... Labour gained 7 new MEP's , but UKIP were the big winners gaining 11 seats ...
The North West Constituency, which has 8 MEP's in the European Parliament, returned 3 MEP's for both Labour and the UKIP parties, and two for the Conservatives ... looking more locally, the Burnley vote was split as follows , on a 33.01 % turnout !
Labour Party 7,343
U.K.I.P. 6,266
Lib/Dem 3,011
Con 2,792
Green 834
B.N.P. 803
Others ( 5 ) 758
All good fun, if you like this sort of stuff ....

Haven't a clue what's going to happen nationally, although you'd expect the big winners to be TBP,and the Lib Dems, rumours that the Conservatives might have zero MEP'S in the North West region,if that is the case they really are in for a bad night, looking at those Burnley figures it wouldn't be a shock if Labour dropped to 3rd behind Brexit, and the Libs,i can see the greens possibly leapfrogging the Tories as well, the Greens are establishing a local presence in Burnley over the last couple of years, where the UKIP vote goes will be key, you'd assume most would switch to TBP,but if they can retain even a quarter of their 2014 share in the town, the Conservatives could suffer the ignominy of coming 6th,which given their relatively strong 2nd place in 2017 would epitomise their plummeting national polling ratings,of course any results in this unique election have to be taken with a huge pinch of salt,as the volatility amongst the electorate is at an all time peak.

The Tories will be fine.
They will clean up, in fact, under their alternative name of the Liberal Democrats.

Based on what?
Turnout estimated to be just short of 40% in the UK and the EU average will be higher.

One minor issue that this raises, which us never discussed, is why we continue to hold elections on a Thursday when the majority of countries have them at weekends. Just look at all the disruption caused by school closures etc on a weekday, and how much more time would everyone have to vote on a Sunday.

Yeah, I’d imagine turnout is up as both arch Brexiteers and Remainers will have wanted to make a point.

It’s a bit difficult to work out how many MEP’s each party will get due to how it’s worked out , link explains far better than I can.

To suppress turnout. The last thing the major parties want is for more people to vote.

I’ve asked this question on a few different threads and nobody has yet provided an answer:
Why do The Brexit Party want seats in an organisation they don’t believe in and what do the people who voted for them expect them to do?

Normally minority parties just try to win enough vote to put pressure on the major parties to influence them to changing their position on certain subjects.
However this vote will put the Brexit Party in a strong position to possibly put MP’s in parliament at a GE.
MEP’s have little or no power in the EU parliament, unless more than 50% of the MEP’s are eurosceptic. It is expected that over 200 MEP’s will be eurosceptic and then will not be enough to change anything from within.

The BP aren't yet a conventional political party,i'd view them more as a pressure group to focus the Tories in particular to leave the EU in one form or another, what their MEP'S will do if they ever take their seats in Brussels is hard to pinpoint, but essentially they'll be the awkward squad and try to disrupt the EU parliament any way they can.

You've gotta feel bad for Tommeh. bing unable to stand outside all the polling stations to jeopardise the integrity of the election must have really disappointed him.

Same as UKIP did. In that case they wanted to make a point (many in the UK don't want us to be in the EU) and to disrupt.
As this is the most pointless election I've ever come across in this country, I presume people voted (I didn't) to make some point, perhaps 'I don't want the UK in the EU', 'Get on with Brexit', 'The main parties have failed us' or whatever else you wish to read into this farce. You can be assured that politicians and pundits alike will try and attribute their meaning to it all.

Some people in our politics are happy to serve the interests of foreign countries over the interest of ours. See the collapse of the Austrian coalition government for an example of how they are being compromised and coerced.

Only 3 out of the 73 Brexit Party have ever held a public office. I suggest many are hard working people who want Brexit sorting.

27... not true in the slightest.
They opened the ballot boxes, turned all the ballot papers OVER, and counted them.
You’ll find that gives a pretty good indication of turnout.

Exactly. I don't know why people don't just google stuff like this, (or read the Sunday papers) rather than making absurd claims like 20%.
Countrywide it's supposed to be about 38.5 % subject to a small margin of error.

Apparently counting has already started in Southampton for the South-East region.

I’m surprised, I didn’t think counting was allowed until voting had finished in all countries (which is 10pm UK time).

Exit polls suggest not much change overall in Europe, and about 31% of the vote for the Brexit Party in the UK.
Which of course will be taken by everyone to mean "No Deal"
Some big turnouts in Europe, with double the numbers in Poland and Germany

I think we will see a very different Europe to the one we have now. In fact a lot more like the common market we quite rightly joined. If they did a second referendum on it I'd vote remain.

He's just getting the UKIP vote in the European elections. Its not that surprising.
He's been helped by UKIP being a even more a bunch of nutters than they were when he was involved.
Which is saying something!
