A non-gambling sponsor would have been nice.

Not buying another shirt whilst we have a bookie as the sponsor. Ultimately its a meaningless protest though as the commercial impact of low shirt sales is insignificant v the money we get from the sponsorship deal. A sign of the times.
Can't blame the club for trying to get as much money as we can, it's just a shame that the top bidder is always an Asian betting site.

Why do shirt sponsors exist? To bring in money.
Did this one offer us a better deal than others? Probably.
Is this therefore a problem in any way? No.

It is if it encourages more people to gamble, especially youngsters.

There will be some who won't wear the shirt due to being sponsored by a betting firm but will go in the ladbrokes cricket field stand

Shows a real lack of class from the board. They clearly don't give a stuff about the Club's image and integrity, they just crave the cash. But least they are investing it all on new players and an improved experience for the fans at Turf Moor.....oh hang on....

I think everyone understands the economics behind it, but that doesn't mean to say people should be happy that our shirts are emblazoned with the logo of another crummy online gambling company.

Couldn't agree more. I know it won't change anyone's minds at the club but this very subject was discussed at last month's meeting of Burnley FC Supporters Groups and the chairman was tasked with taking the group's unease (for want of a better word) with it to the club's hierarchy. It won't achieve anything though, other than letting them know that the supporters don't like it.

You have to order it from the children's section but they've increased the sizes to go too XXL adult, very clever way to do it. We should follow suit

Didn't our beloved last Chairman Barry Kilby make all his money from scratchcards and casino gaming machines like the ones in bookies which are one of the biggest causes of gambling addiction and the problems caused by it?

As long as the money keeps rolling in, clubs will keep taking it. It's a shame, but money talks I guess.
Until the promotion of gambling companies is banned by the league, in the same way that tobacco and alcohol companies have been, nothing will change.

I agree with most of what has been said regarding gambling advertisements, but I think the way it takes over the whole front of the shirt and the arms according to the official statement is in poor taste and design, and ruins what could b3 a good shirt

Same logo on shirt and sleeve - which is a first in the PL I think - and possibly worth more as a result to the sponsor (though last years was the same group - who also own this years sponsor I am given to understand)
On the subject of Ladbrokes - I posted a while back that they had committed to removing all sponsorship in and around the game see post #937

Straight from the press release - "Together, we will reach and engage with our ever-increasing global audience, in particular in the Asian market.”
How come we've ended up with Port Vale and Fleetwood for friendlies then, surely the best way to engage our growing Asian audience would be a friendly in China/Hong Kong?

It's reported that we got £3m for the LaBa deal last year which in the scheme of things isn't much
It is 75,000 adult shirts at £40 each, which would never sell - even if the club opened up the selling restrictions we have.
If we took the moral ground, and went with a more "ethical" company, are they going to pay £3m?
Even if they paid £2m, we'd need to sell 25000 adult shirts to make up the shortfall, which again isn't possible - we don't even have that many home fans each game

My understanding of this advertising malarky, and feel free to contradict, is that the betting logo is aimed squarely at the Chinese/Asian market. So when a Burnley match is shown on TV then the hope of LoveBet is that their profile will rise in that region of the world. And I understand that but what I don't understand is why the need to have it on a shirt that someone wants to use as casual wear whilst walking through Burnley town centre on a Monday morning.

Doesn't mean you have to do it, had you quoted the whole of my post you'd see many things that have been on the front of our shirts that people haven't suddenly gone and bought just because 11 men run round with a shirt advertising something. I guess obesity kills more people in East Lancashire than betting does, yet nobody had a problem with pies on the front of the shirt, or being able to order one for half time from your phone.
