All these celebrity chefs need to wind their necks in, a few hours down the line they have just made a turd.

It's hardly like searching for Eldorado. You can buy all three of those ingredients in Asda.

Supermarkets tend not stock produce that doesn't sell - so your 10 years in a cupboard 'theory' isn't strictly true and those ingredients must be way more popular that you think - we are taking Adsa here, hardly the gourmet grocery department in Harrods.
Anyroad, Fatboy. I can't understand why you are so het up about this. So much so that you felt compelled enough to start a thread about it. Are you terrified that your local Maccy D's are going to impose them on you.

You probably know far more about Maccy D's (is that a fast food outlet?)...and supermarkets than me Billy.....we have neither here on the Scillies...just a handful of bistros and a tiny co-op. You're so clearly a man of breeding and class though, that I'd have expected you to know that.

Really good, inventive chef. It’s a show about Middle Eastern cuisine - he’s probably going to be using ingredients used in Middle Eastern cuisine. He’s done lots of simpler dishes in the past.

Often this clown pulls our ingredients that ara left in his fridge. He then procedes to combine them into some horrendous combos, often lacking carbs, nutrients and taste.
At best some of his dishes are accompaniments .

Wow..really...

give up my cliff top paradise surrounded by deserted white sand beaches, on a near traffic free, crime free , drug free area of outstanding natural beauty.....for a life in Burnley Wood..or Accy Road...or Brierfield (is there an Asda in Brierfield?)
These pomegranite molasses must be awesome....I'm off to the estate agents as we speak.

I’m always worried about what Nigel has handled “ meat “ wise before he starts his “ I’m rustling up a few leftovers from the fridge” ( Madagascan bees honey ,truffle oil and Kobe beef spleen etc) schtick
I used to quite like Simon Hopkinson kept it simple , but he tried to bum the cameraman and I’m not sure he ever got back on his feet after that ( SH not the cameraman)

Not sure what the problem is with him. More people like cooking with different ingredients more than ever nowadays. If you have stuff left over after a dinner party or whatever and it needs using you may have some obscure ingredients left over.

Much preferable than a lot of chefs/cooks on TV he's Got all the Nigella mannerisms but not the looks....he's from humble beginnings and on another thred on him Last year...sure there's a story of a Sh!t childhood which makes interesting reading.I like his "style" of interacting with people. Very humble and sincere.

Ultimately you have to ask “ what would he be like as you’re house guest” ?
I’d say he’d be super polite and very clean and tidy .Whereas say Ramsey, you just know he’d try and shag your mrs and chunder in the spare room and probs leave an unflushed turd “ fack me sorry mate I’ve blocked your bog with an absolute battleship”

I don't mind his programmes (even if he does sometimes have some rather questionable leftovers from the dinner party the night before...).
I bought his cookbook Eat for my missus and it's quite good. Not complicated and some tasty recipes.

I think he's an old smellysocks...looks like a poor man's Jim Royle....probably wears them baggy off-white flannel skids and keeps a month's worth of dirty fluff in his belly button.
Does he wash his hands after wiping his crack? I think not.

or more to the point billy, why try to drag a light hearted thread into the gutter. Fatboy has a point. buying all those poncey ingredients isnt realistic for the average joe. Fine if you own a restaurant but most of the stuff bought will end up in the bin and by the time everything is paid for you might as well have just had a gourmet meal in a restaurant.

Some pomegranate molasses and some sumac would cost a couple of quid in total (I'm assuming everyone has some olive oil if they're cooking).
I'd recommend sumac lamb chops, they're great.

Go on his website fzr ... He says he is a writer and an amateur cook and not a professional Chef....

"Author, columnist, diarist and programme maker, Nigel remains very much an amateur cook. He is not a professional chef. His food is understated, handcrafted home cooking"
Working in a restaurant kitchen as a young man does not mean you are a Chef

Easily the best TV chef for my money and one of the few who can write about food rather than just churning recipes
Yes some of his ingredients assume you have a world food deli at the end of your road - but he does live in London and there are lots of delis
Watching Nigella simpering at the camera is easier on the eye though

You can tell the people who prefer good ol' shepherds pie or spag bol - and if you do then why would you even bother watching cooking programmes?
Never seen Nigel Slater but you can get most ingredients from your local big supermarket these days, otherwise most towns have international supermarkets which will stock the more obscure continental ingredients. If I was watching a programme about middle eastern cuisine then I would expect there to be a number of ingredients that I'm not currently stocking in my pantry.
