I am 65 and never eaten Spam. I can remember eating 'luncheon meat' once (whatever that is/was!)
I eat corned beef - often have corned beef sandwiches on the journey to the match.
Who can tell me about Spam experiences?

My Nan used to make the best spam fritters in the kingdom. My mouth is watering at the thought yet it must be getting on for seventy years since I had any.

Only equal best I'm afraid Spades, although in my house they were known as 'meat fish' and more than sixty years is about right.

I've been to the SPAM museum in Austin, Minnesota.

I like Spam, used to be my butty of choice whilst on the building sites.
"Spam and egg on toast , with HP sauce please"
Was never a happy bunny if I returned to site with the cheap and nasty sauce instead mind.
On a side note, chippys that do spam fritters with salt and vinegar on are the best chips about. None around me do them, and I'm yet to see 1 in Burnley that does. I've to go to my favourite Blackpool chippy every time I'm there to get my fix.

It is remarkable how these simple things provoke such profound memories.
When I mentioned luncheon meat, in my opening post, I immediately remembered how me and my pal made and sold 200 luncheon meat rolls, each time I put on a stag or hen night cabaret, in the Reading Telephones club, in Reading.

It's 35+ years since I had spam (or any other luncheon meat) though I'm still very fond of corned beef (had many gashed fingers over the years). In my early -mid 20s, I used to get back well oiled from the pub, open a tin of spam and grill a few slices to make sarnies (with a bit of brown rather than red sauce).
I might try that again if I come across a small tin of spam sometime soon.
I also used to like this sort of usage

Over here we just get one variety- SPAM in a can. As I'm sure our US-based Clarets will confirm, they can choose from loads of different varieties with things added. The SPAM fritter is a British thing. In the museum's international section, that's shown as the British speciality that nobody else does. I love the stuff. Warm, in fresh bread with pickles and salad.

Stick the unopened tin in the fridge for a day. Open. Stick fork straight in. Pull. Listen to schhhloop as entire thing and jelly come out on fork. Eat like a lollipop.

We get Spam, Spam Lite, Spam Less Sodium, Spam with Real Bacon and Spam Hot & Spicey.
Personally I go for the latter 2, usually consumed as a grilled butty.
