Besart Berisha

Ended up somehow on his Wiki page and didn't have a clue he's had a VERY successful career in Australia in the A League. So good infact he's the leagues ALL TIME leading scorer with 116 goals.

He genuinely did look class on the Turf for Albania when they played England B team.

Such a shame he had such a bad injury with his cruciate ligament or I really think he could have been some player.

Happy it worked out for him after a frustrating time at Burnley he's currently playing in Japan for Hiroshima.

It worked out for him in a far inferior league.

A far inferior league but on 30k a week. Not much off our top earner now.

When he was here we was that sh1te he would of been lucky to get 5k.

Well done to the lad.

I remember him scoring that great goal at Accy and we all
thought he was going to be something special... bit like when Guerrero beat three stoke players as soon as he came on in our first Premier League game.

Wikipedia states "The contract is for two seasons commencing in the 2014–15 season and is worth $1.5 million" which is Au$750k per annum. That is around £412k for each season at current exchange rates - £8k per week. Not a bad living wage but way off what any 1st team player at BFC currently earns.

How you can say he was that awful when he was at Turf Moor I don't know as he never made a competitive start nor spent any significant time on the pitch at any time.

Was outstanding for Albania and looked to be an outstanding signing. Hard to know how much effect the injury had but even before he’d got back into training he was told to find a new club. I think he had a couple of loans in Norway or the like before leaving permanently.

Reminds me of Papadopolous, made a good career for himself away from Burnley. Didnt he also get a Euro winners medal as part of the Greece squad?

I remember being over in Australia working and thought I'd go to a match at the weekend. Was very surprised to see that the star players were Harry Kewell and Besart Berisha.

The standard was terrible though, I think I was watching a top of the table clash and they'd have struggled against League Two teams.

I remember going to Ipswich away and singing ‘oh Dimi, Dimi, Dimi, Dimi, Dimi Papadopoulos’ long into the night. Great header in the last minute I recall.

He hardly ever plays.

I watched the England game and Besart looked a class act.I always liked Dimi Pap.Dimi was never given a chance at Burnley. The manager at the time Stan ,was very hard to get on with for some and he appeared to restrict Dimis games.Playing for Greece and long absences after travelling to play for Greece didnt help Dimi stake a claim.A shame because he looked a decent player as he proved in Greece both at International and club level with Panathanakos

I seem to recall there was a clash with Stan. Dimi insisted on being released for the Greek internationals, and Stan wanted him to stay at Burnley and help the team. There was only ever going to be one winner. I'm sure that Dimi had it in his contract that he had to be released for internationals, so why give him the contract and then fight it........

Isn't that a FIFA rule, or wasn't that in operation back then?

I remember cheering when Dimi scored a penalty against England under 21s at Ewood. England still won so it was fine!

That can’t be the case. It’s a FIFA requirement that players are released so would not be in a contract. From what I was told he didn’t really want to be here and was going home far more often than any internationals.

Papadopoulos won only one cap for Greece while at Burnley and that was in the November of his second season with us.

Not sure about that but he definitely kicked off about Cox playing for someone (T&Tobago?).
