Due to the relative success of the inaugural golf tipping league at this years Masters we will have another go at the U S Open which starts at Pebble Beach in California on Thursday.

I will use the same format.

Please choose six players from the list below which also gives the tee off times for the opening round or two.

Following day one's play the following points will be awarded:

1st place - 30
2nd place - 25
3rd place - 20
4th place - 15
5th place - 10
6th place - 5

If any places are tied all players will be awarded the points.

Each day the points will carry over to the second, third and final day.

Anybody can enter and it doesn't cost a penny but keeps a bit of interest.

Following this I will do a horse racing naps league starting next Tuesday for Royal Ascot.

Great entertainment into the early hours watching this tournament.

Your competition certainly makes me follow the tournament more than I would otherwise.
Ive stayed up until c 12.30 both nights and then had to catch up the following morning. The tournament being right over on the west coast is a bit awkward time-wise; Augusta is more favourable when following The Masters, only 5 hours behind as opposed to 8 here.

Only half way through now so a lot can still happen still but looking at the odds (Bet365) - Rory is favourite now at 4/1, Rose, Woodland, Koepka after that

And this comp could yet become very interesting over the next two nights.

I'm doing garbage but at least there is a decent British challenge at a major finally,this American domination has lasted far too long,hope Justin,Rory and Matt Wallace can maintain their form over the next 36 holes,you'd think Tiger is too far back,but if he gets to within 4/5 strokes of the leader,he could still present a danger on the last day.

Big shout out for Rhys Enoch shot a 78 on day 1,and then bounced back with a 66 to make the cut.

Plenty of players can still win this major.
It’s been a brilliant watch with the only bad thing being how late it’s on - not finishing till 3am.
Pebble Beach looks an incredible course. It’s not stupidly difficult like the recent US Opens which have been heavily criticised by players, fans etc.
But it’s a long way from being easy either.
The weather conditions - cold, sea breeze etc make it feel like a British Open. The way you need to strategically plot your way round and take irons off the tee is far more interesting than watching the normal PGA events of hitting it 350 yards down a big wide fairway.

Hard to pick a winner as many are playing well. If you are looking for an outsider to come from the pack Furyk at 150s played great yesterday and loves this course. Mickelson at 100s won here this season also. Both could be decent each way bets.

The TV coverage so far this evening has been poor IMO (I understand it's down to whichever broadcaster Sky is buying from). Loads of time watching the big names/leaders on the practice range whilst there is plenty of action out on the course. There was even a piece where a journalist went out to have a look round the local village shops.
It's more satisfying following what's going on on the Leaderboard on BBC. I expect things will get better as the leaders get out on the course but not very entertaining so far.

Kudos to USGA for not messing with this course, as they have for the previous 3 US Opens. Greens are drying out, guys can’t leave approach shots above the hole, getting quicker down the small, sloping greens and the rough is penal. This US Open has a British Open feel about it, no question, ‘survival of the fittest’ come Sunday’s round.

As for a winner….. a total crap shoot at time of writing. As per normal, those who hit fairways, sold short game and have a reliable ‘flat stick’ typically come out on top. This could be a fun Sunday finish!

Thanks for running this, it certainly added interest in the event for me (as a not particularly big golf fan). I just enjoy tipping/predicting around sports- no need for big betting (or any betting in this case).

I did manage to go off to bed at 12 last night (earlier than the previous two) but it already looked then like Woodland would get the better of Rose so it was no great surprise to see the final leaderboard this morning.

I'm just about to start a new thread for Royal Ascot and that takes an awful lot more time to mark up each day depending on the number of people who take part but the golf was a breeze.
