Milnrow can’t raise a team for tonight’s game at Rawtenstall. Rawtenstall will instead play Stacksteads in a friendly.

Poor do that not being able to raise a team. Am I right in thinking Milnrow's pro was Burnley's last year?

Judging by the league table, worsley cup quarter final draw I tend to agree that there currently is only one team in Burnley

Both Colne and Rawtenstall looked like they could fold in recent seasons.

Good to see both clubs getting back on track.

Can't really understand that when I assume they're running 2 teams? Surely with that as well as any half decent 15/16 year olds at the club they can get 10 lads together on a Friday night as well as the pro.

They've struggled to field a second team a few times this year and forfeited.

A pity this, Milnrow were a well run club in my youth, Cec Abrahams ( Johnny's dad) was their pro for many years. A South African better than d'Oliveira in my opinion.

Some local colleges have laid off staff over the past few years and one of the reasons is the demographic, the birth rate dropped 16 years ago. Less young people and less young people are playing cricket due to numerous reasons. Cricket isn't a priority anymore, there might be someone's birthday do or a school prom to go to tonight.

Clubs all over the country are suffering. Expect Milnrow to join GMCL and run one team next season. Daisy Hill in BCL in a similar position.

Yes, to another post, Asif Zakir has appeared as Milnrow pro for the last games. Like many pros he will probably go back home in August for a training camp.

It’s a big commitment playing Friday then Saturday or Sunday. Although at Rawtenstall the junior practices are attended by large numbers at the minute on Friday nights hopefully enough of them remain interested as they get older.

Retention in football and cricket when they get to 18 is the tough one now. Ran an under 18 6-7 years ago now and I think only 2 still play regular cricket. Problem at the club where I played / coached is that they were well educated so disappeared to university never to be seen again. In football they played all year round from the age of 5 and when they get to 18 they've played enough so play 5 a side with mates if they can be bothered.

I think it was their second team we were watching last year, with one player about 12 and another who looked in his 60s. They looked to be struggling to field a team then.

'Ouse were totally dominant and an excellent win with another large crowd to boot!

Re Milnrow. Obviously many of us don't really know all the history of the "newbies" to the league, but I was chatting to a guy from Rochdale CC recently who informed me that just a few short years ago Milnrow was THE club over that way with excellent high quality players, both amateur and pros, loads of junior teams and a thriving off the field set up too. BUT it all imploded with massive fallings out as players were constantly and aggressively recruited from other clubs and brought in from outside to "grace" the first team and more local players who were coming through the ranks were readily discarded and simply drifted away. In a huge and utterly dramatic reversal of fortune the then hierarchy and driving forces at the club left and the club suddenly found itself with an extremely thin line of active players and are struggling to rid themselves of the legacy of a somewhat toxic previous regime. I HEARD that they offered to not re enter the league at all this year as things have become so bad, but ultimately they have done and are struggling player wise pretty much every week. Consequently they lose heavily and often, but if they are now actually being run well and run properly I genuinely hope they can pull through the current difficulties get some depth in playing strength and remain a fixture in the league for many years to come.

Makes you wonder how Milnrow passed the “strict” criteria to get in the league in the first place. Would have been better off letting Padiham in or even Read as much as it pains me to say.

Did Padiham or Read actually want to be in? (Both would definitely cut it in the Lancs League tbf. Both on and off the field))

The sticking point is whether they would be happy to switch from predominantly Saturday Cricket to Sunday Cricket. But if they’re being honest I think both clubs would jump at the chance.

Asked similar to "quicken the tempo" as he knows the scene up padiham. Its known as the pie and pea league, but I'm certain it cant be too far off ( it at all ) the standard required .

It's very harsh and very cheeky of him (or anyone) to call it "pie and pea league" because tbh Rib League Senior division is an extremely good standard with good pros. The clubs mostly have excellent facilities and great junior set ups. The vast majority of Rib Senior League clubs would cut it in the Lancs I'd say, but for some it might take a bit of adjustment as in Great Harwood for example haven't found the step up that easy.

“Pie and Pea League” very harsh and disrespectful to a lot of hard working “volunteers” who graft their b0llocks off week in week out every summer to give 22/33 lads the opportunity to play a game of cricket every weekend.

Yes, there is quite a reasonable gap in the standard but it’s far from a “pie and pea league”. There’s some top quality amateurs in the Ribb league but a lack of strength in depth in bowling and batting and also, in general the standard of pro’s isn’t as good IMO

I’ve never watched much Ribblesdale League cricket to be honest but I went up to Padiham a couple of times last season, once for a league game and once for a t20. I don’t suspect it is of Lancs League standard generally but any club should be praised for keeping the game going and giving lads the opportunity to play.

And seems they are sorting things at Milnrow in terms of how they run the club so hopefully things will work out there.
