Never seen a player like him, I always thought "how does the ball stick to this clumsy looking oaf?" It was magic to watch him and his bumbling total control. A bit like Usain Bolt, rewrote the rule book for me on stereotypical greatness.

Every time he got the ball you expected something fantastic to happen. An absolutely brilliant talent.

I feel a bit sorry for him in a way, because I think playing for Burnley probably held him back. I know he went onto play for Bolton and Reading in the Premier League, but it was probably a couple of years too late. Great talent. Fans from all the clubs he has played for loved him though.

Noticeable that four of the goals I’m the op ten are from the first half of the 2001/2 season. He was on fire that season up until Christmas (as were most of the team to be fair). Still don’t understand how we managed not even to make the play-offs after being top at Xmas.

I also find it disturbing that a couple of the goals are now over 20 years ago!!!

And I think the context of the match in which it was scored helped. Big game against a club at the top, a must win to keep us in touch at the top and down to ten men (Payton sent off).

It was a big couple of weeks for the club, some important wins and a week and a bit after Glen’s Bristol Rovers goal a certain Ian Wright turned up at the Turf.

Number 3 against Grimsby was equally as nuts as the Bristol Rovers goal

Glenda is undoubtedly in my top 3 favourite players of all time. As others mentioned, you just knew with him on the ball that something would happen and he always had the ability to beat a man, which seems to be missing a lot from the games these days.

As others have mentioned, that Bristol goal in the context of the game and situation was amazing - Payts owes him one!

Have to agree with others on here that he really could have done more for his career had he left us sooner but I'm glad he didn't!

Wonder why those clowns Glenn Roeder and Chris Waddle took so long to play him that season?

I remember him tearing Norwich to shreds at Carrow Road. We were losing but you just knew we'd win with Glen in that form and we did. He was absolutely unstoppable.

Absolutely agree. I couldn't believe he wasn't given a crack at PL footy far earlier and can only assume that many clubs thought he was something of a "flat track bully" who was taking the pee out of lower league defenders and looked great "at that level", but didn't have what it takes for the PL. I was always convinced he DID have it and think his chance not only came slightly too late, but was hampered by injuries too in the end. Anyway, it meant we got his best years and at the time he was a breath of fresh air!

He was definitely Premier League quality, if you listen to the podcast link posted above he mentions City bid 5 million for him that year we were top at Christmas then collapsed, but we turned it down and they bought Jon Macken instead. In that interview he says he didn't dare mention leaving to Stan, not sure if he was joking or not He was also a pivotal part of the Reading team that set the points record in the Championship.

I’m sure he nutmegged their player in the left back position. I don’t know whether I was seated in the side stand or whether I was just right in the corner, but we took a lot of fans that night.

My hero growing up! Hell of a player. Every time he got the ball you knew he was going to do something special. Absolutely loved watching him.

Was truely a breath of fresh air for us clarets. But he wasn’t fit to lace Waddle’s boots and would never make a footballer.

On his day he was breath taking, it was as though the ball was glued to his boot.
