Going to Crewe on Saturday. Does anyone have any tips for a pint before the match. Last time we went we ended up in the South St Club but it now looks like just a snooker club. If I remember rightly we got beat on the day with Ade & Gifton up front, both looking as if they'd never seen a football before never mind played with one!

Hope the chippy is still going. Was a highlight off any trip to crewe back in the day

Went for an under-23 game and the chippy wasn't very good

If you turn left out of gresty road onto nantwich road and go to the traffic lights there is a pub called the Cheshire inn or go straight across at the traffic lights and about 200 yards there is a bar called The Beer Dock that sells craft beer,I live in Crewe so I speak from experience !,

Haven't been in there since I went in after we lost in the dark days leading up to the Orient Match. My Uncle, who was an Evertonian, just gave me a bag of chips and said nothing. Wise man!

I was a student there in the early 80s. Okay, things change, but there used to be a right rough and ready boozer on the main road just up from the ground: The British Lion. What's more it's still there. I've just checked on GoogleMaps. Turn left at the end of Gresty Road on to the A534, and a couple of minutes walk will bring you to it. It's on the left.

Good choice going to Crewe and not Vale.

That pub is still going and it's nicknamed The Pig for obvious reasons ,you get some rough customers in there

My first visit to Crewe was 85/6 season. I travelled with Nelson Gasworkers and we stopped in Sandbach. For about 2 hours. When we pulled up at the ground, a copper opened the coach door, smelt ale on Andy Brennan and promptly nicked him. Anyone else fancy saying something goes the same way as your leader. The warmest of welcomes to Gresty Rd.

I got that impression. It was after our finals in 1983. A pub I used to really like was the Hop Pole. Remember it, Crewe Claret?

Is ‘The Barrell’ still open? I was a student in Alsager and used to go in there if we popped over to watch a Crewe game midweek for something to do.

There was also ‘Steam’ Nightclub in the town centre - goodness me. That attracted a certain clientele!! Always remember going there for the first time and Jimmy Quinn the ex Reading striker was on the door.

Ha my brother used to live opposite the Hop Pole it used to be my second home before I got married ,its still going strong very popular

It was a fantastic pub. I used to share a terraced house on Richard Street ... with two Blackburn Rovers fans and one girl. Imagine: in 1979-80, we went down to division 3, they went the other way. Two really good lads, though. One of them, Frank, sadly died of cancer in 1986 aged 34.
