I am going to Krakow in September for 5 days and wanted to get the money sorted now before a new PM is elected and with Brexit on the way before a potential drop in the exchange rate. Has anyone been to Krakow in the past and can give me some idea of the costs of restaurants/bars/shops etc so I can get a rough amount of how much I would need.

Cheap enough. Average about 3 quid a pint factoring in the more crafty places and you wont go wrong. If you like duck, make a reservation at the Black Duck. Great place

Been 3 times recently trip was this June. Generally it is still good value. The area directly around the square is more expensive but still relatively cheap. The number and types of restaurants continues to grow as does the quality.

Wine is not much different to uk prices now but there are numerous places where beer is still cheap. 90p a pint if you really shop around.

We love the place for its culture and history as well as the vibrancy.

Zlotys don't go as far as you'd think tbh.

Me and the ex went for a meal when we were in Warsaw and it was 100 zloty, last August, and we only had two courses.

We booked/paid online in advance for Auschwitz and the Salt mine which helped.

I was there in March and beers around the Market Square were 13Zl - 15Zl.
No doubt it'll vary one bar to the next.


Be aware that the rail link to the airport was closed as they are upgrading the line. There was a bus replacement service in operation but I couldn't offer any details.

Isn't there a bar owned, or at least run by, a Claret over there?

There is a sports bar with a Burnley flag behind the bar just off the main square, £15 to £20 for a 3 course meal in the Square and lots of options, and plenty of places that will change your pound notes at a decent rate

I was there in January with the missus. We found it quite cheap but this was in comparison to a weekend in London etc..

We were paying about £6/7 for a cocktail (this was at a bar where the bartenders were on the Polish international ‘barmen team’) ... it was about £35 for a GOOOD 3 courses and a couple of drinks which I thought was great value for the food/drinks we had.

We generally stopped for quick bites in the local looking places during the day which was really good hearty food which was needed in the -8 degree temperature.

I have the number for the guy who sorted our trip to Auschwitz and Birkenau and also the trip to the salt mines if you’d like that. I found them highly rated on tripadvisor but he gives a discount if booked direct over WhatsApp (you pay when you’re there on the day of the trip).

I think we spent around £400ish over 3 days butbthat included excursions to Auschwitz and the salt mines, entry fees to places like the Schindler factory and all our food and drinks and the transfers to/from the airport there and a couple of presents to bring back for family. We didn’t go mental on spending but also didn’t try and overly scrimp.

I also found that 90%+ of places took card payments too if you have a credit card and don’t get charged for usin it abroad you’ll be fine. The exchange rate in card payments and what we got when exchanging wasn’t that far apart either.

I can recommend the Milk Bar on Tomasza street which is 5 mins from
the main square.
It's relatively small but you'll get more than a decent meal for less than 5 quid
and less than that if you go for the perogi.
Service is friendly and relatively quick but depending on the time of day you
may have to wait for a table.

The first time I went to Kraków in 1990 it was Zloty 7,000 for a pint of Zywiec or EB, which equates to about 30p a pint. I think it's gone up a bit since then.

We liked Krakow a lot and with the ease of getting about and their history hope to return.

Also as we didn’t want to fly or drive and with the train being to expensive we went by coach which considering the distance went fine and arrived fresh.

Used to be great value but EU has knackered it.

Have started to use a pre paid card when going abroad. Top it up online with the currency where you are going and take some local cash with you to pay where you cannot use the card.
