Keep seeing posts saying he’s linked us with various players so I thought I’d do a search of his name on the forum. These are the stories I can see over the past few months

Hart to MLS
Bogle from Derby
Reece James from Chelsea
Hart to Rovers
Scott Carson from Derby
Che Adams from Birmingham
Sell Vydra and Wells to fund Rodriguez and Adams
Watford challenging us for Dawson
Bournemouth for Hart
Juventus for McNeil
Tarkowski for Leicester
Dunne to Hull
Heaton to Villa
Klich from Leeds
Maehle from Genk
Malinovski from Genk
Newcastle for McNeil
Peacock-Farrell from Leeds
Vydra to Turkey
Heaton to Villa agreed

He reports interest.

He can't help it if it doesn't turn out.

Do you think any of them links were untrue?

That’s for each person to decide.
They could all be true and the deals just didn’t get agreed, some could be true with some made up.

What does seem to be true is the vast majority don’t come off.

I've seen his tweets and he sometimes says what will be announced tomorrow - tomorrow comes and it's what was in the papers the day before.

But, he does get quite a lot right.

All he does is report when a call has been made or interest has been shown in a player. People seem to make the mistake of thinking that every player he mentions is stuck on to be signing.

Most of the listed players/clubs above (if not all of them) are perfectly reasonable and logical links.

Hard to say.

But I find the Scott Carson and Dwight McNeil ones to be particularly implausible. Hart to Bournemouth also makes almost no sense at all either.

He does get a lot right, however, he seems to pedal a lot of nonsense, and sometimes I feel he’s possibly involved with agents and is trying to move along some deals for his buddies by saying that others are interested in player “x” when actually they may never even have heard of that player.

Yeah, I think you're probably right there.

The potential links between the betting markets on potential transfers, the media and 24/7 news channels are a real concern for me.

Rife for exploitation.

He seems to have made a good living, peddling inconsequential tattle to more than willing consumers of said ephemera. Good for him.

Juventus keeping tabs on a teenager at a selling club who had a good 6 months in a top European league.

Burnley potentially looking for an experienced 3rd choice keeper if, as most of us think, there are one or two departures.

Bournemouth most definitely looking for a goalkeeper and being priced out of a deal for Butland.

They all make sense to me.

Me too. I think Hart to Bournemouth especially is very much a Howe transfer.

The point we are making is, that if a story comes out on a Friday stating that Burnley are in talks with, for arguments sake Liverpool for Harry Wilson (pervious thread chatter), then on the Sunday he also writes that Newcastle, Palace and Leicester are now all in talks for the same player, whilst inserting a quote such as “Leicester MAY be willing to pay more” this can be seen as him trying to push through a deal for an agent friend or similar things like touting players around to get them a potential transfer!
I believe the latter was done with Oli McBurnie a season or two ago.

At the start of the January that we signed Robbie Brady, I had been told by someone who is in the know (I don’t class myself as ‘in the know’ at all, but am friends with somebody who is, albeit I don’t get to meet him regularly) that we were in for him - and this had not yet been mooted anywhere. I was told he was our top target and we might even break our transfer record for him.

I tweeted Nixon a few weeks later, we still hadn’t been linked with him (not even a mention on here let alone the tabloids) saying ‘Robbie Brady to Burnley?’. The response was “Never in a million years, far too expensive for Burnley”.

He signed on deadline day.

Nixon does know some stuff for definite as he has broke loads of stories on us which have been true, but I feel there is far more work for his pals in the agent industry going on these days than truly reliable links.

Pretty insufferable on Twitter.

Often posts about the poor standard of the Premier League but also how good the Partick Thistle youth team is - the irony being none of them will ever be good enough to play at the level he slags off.

When the one in fifty transfer stories he comes up with actually happens, he'll do a really smug tweet about how he called it first. Weird bloke.

Weird, hyper-sensitive guy. I don’t really get all the fuss around hearing a rumour before anyone else.

Some fans seem fascinated by this guff in the summer, like someone who gets a story first is some sort of hero. They’re not signing anyone, or making any deals, let alone scoring any goals. They’re literally just gossiping for cash.

I’d rather read a journalist with some insight into a sport when there’s actually some action to report on rather than chase around trying to discover something we’ll all know sooner or later anyway.

Haha, I ask often, believe me :D

It's his relation that is the 'in the know' one (I am third in the chain!), I won't say who they're related to so as not to betray a confidence but rest assured, they are certainly somebody who's name you would all know.

Not heard a dicky bird since Crouch, and I rather wish I hadn't heard that.

Why is everyone so against him - he will get told stuff from agents and report what he is allowed to wether it comes off or not everyone likes a transfer story - better things to worry about

JUST IN: Burnley. Move for Drinkwater on loan from Chelsea going quite well. Would fit the bill and a Dyche type. Heavy wages. But could strike a compromise number.
