I don't think I've seen that pic of Barry Kilby and John Connelly before - what a player Connelly was and what a smashing pic that is.

I think he was being presented with his World Cup winners medal. If I remember right being a squad member in 1966 I don't think he got a Medal at the time.

My memory of that game was the sheer noise our fans made all night. Everyone really got behind the team, so much so Ferguson mentioned it after the game.

You are correct Beehole67. The ones who missed out in 66 were all awarded them. John was a great bloke who was very humble in the fact that he had what only 21 other English men had ever owned.

Absolutely brilliant balmy night with a terrific atmosphere!

John Connelly played in the nil-all draw against Uruguay (1st fixture in the '66 World Cup) but sadly didn't play for England again

...only the 11 players who played in the final originally received winners medals

I think that is his medal but he was presented with it at 10 Downing Street a couple of months earlier with the other members of the squad who hadn't played in the final so maybe it was his first opportunity to show it off, and rightly so. John was probably there to do the half time draw given he'd played for both clubs.

One of the team when I first went to Burnley and exceptionally talented. It was not much over three years after those pics were taken that he sadly passed away, far too early.

Didn't John hit a post in the last minutes of the one match he played in the World cup ? A header I think. Ifs and buts I know but if that had gone in then it would have been a win for England and John would probably have kept his place

Blake & the Beast....legends of the "Owen is God" era

Used to have a cracking high res picture taken afew seconds after Blake had hit the ball. His technique on the hit was impeccable and he’d stayed in shape to keep the ball down.
What I used to love about the photo was the fans faces in the JHL - some are already celebrating, lots had jumped up. Because it was high res you could see the faces clearly so great to see the expressions. A real if time stood still photo.
Would be great if someone could repost it as it’s lost on a laptop which no longer works.

How Rooney didn't get a red in that game, I'll never know .... well, apart from the fact he was a United player ...

I was on about this picture yesterday as I was on it. and I was on about seeing the footage. As me and my brother don't react untl a few seconds after it went in. It happened so quickly and unexpectedly!

Image is only small to attach on here. But this is it. My brother and I circled in red stood like that for a good few seconds until we realised it went in. Fists clenched. Mesmorised.

Was this your where you were sat all season? on my pic I must have just missed you off?

Yes pretty much until Leicester stoke and Mk dons in cricket field. With odd venture elsewhere.

No problem. probably not on either these? But looking at the games for the first part of that season especially, you can see the buzz about the place.
