As title. I know theres a few south west clarets. Down for 8 days. Planned the obvious Jurrasic Coast, probably Bournemouth and the beach and perhaps up to New Forest.

Any nice drives the other way through Devon and Cornwall. Was in Cornwall with work a few weeks ago and didnt think it was all that. Granted only saw Falmouth really.

Staying near Dorcester.

Bournemouth to Swanage by the chain ferry ,then through to Wareham and Poole on your way back to Bournemoth..

Lulworth cove is worth a drive to .. Best to park at Durdle Dor though and walk over the coastal path to Lulworth ..a lovely walk to be had ..

Tyneham is worth a visit if you are into history..

Catch the open top bus from Weymouth to Portland Bill..Fantastic scenery from the top overlooking Weymouth of Chesil Beach.. Get off at Portland bill lighthouse and walk to the big rock (200 yards away) with the dodgy inbuilt steps up it and climb it ..

The chain ferry isn’t there. It’s been towed to Southampton. They hope to have it back by October. Quite ridiculous really. With all the money down here, they can’t seem to fix it. You have to go the long way round as does everyone else causing massive congestion.

The Walled Garden near the Tank Museum near The Place With Monkeys is worth a visit.

The swanery at Abbotsbury is well worth visiting.

How many monkeys are we talking about?

Kimmeridge is worth a visit, great walks on the coastal footpath ( the army ranges are usually open at the weekend) Maiden Castle - Iron Age earthworks - is very close to Dorchester.

Corfe Castle, you can then get the steam train into Swanage.

If you are into bird watching Arne is brilliant. Once saw a Hobby, Dartford Warbler and Stonechat all at the same time, just by spinning in the spot.

We used to camp at Durdle Door and walk over to Lulworth Cove regular when I was a child, but it's very busy nowadays.
Weymouth has a bit of everything.
The Tank Museum is a great day out as well, across the road fro Monkey World. They are both days out though, so I wouldn't try to do them on the same day


P.S. Salisbury is a great visit as well.

If you're thinking of driving from Bournemouth down to Swanage, through Wareham and Corfe Castle, be sure to plan your journey carefully. Since the Sandbanks Chain Ferry broke down, it's an absolute nightmare. Took us over an hour to get to Corfe Castle last weekend. Normally takes a maximum of half hour. If you're going to Monkey World or the Tank Museum, best to stay on the A35 and turn off at Bere Regis.

Lulworth Cove and a stunning coastal walk. Within 15 mins of here is Monkey World (a sanctuary for hundreds of rescued monkeys) and the tank museum at Bovington.

If you want to combine a swim with a walk there is a wonderful sea water swimming pool called Dancing Ledge at a place called Langton Matravers. Some Victorian carved a pool out of the rocks by the sea in a really spectacular setting. You have to scramble down the path to get there but it is quirky and great fun.

Cycle hire place at Brockenhurst station. £20 to rent a bike for a few hours and then cycle down the tracks in the New Forest, pub stop etc. I did it the other week and it’s really good. Generally flat too.

Bovington Tank Museum, a great place to visit if you like Tanks.

If you don’t like Tanks then the Bovington Tank Museum isn’t for you as there are a loads of Tanks there, indeed you can’t walk anywhere around the place without bumping into a Tank.

Thank Monkey place is just across the road as well. So if you like Monkeys and Tanks then I can’t think of a more perfect day.

Cerne Abbas Giant is worth a look.

Cant help to the west of Dorchester to much,

But another vote for the Coast of the "isle" of purbeck south of swanage, along from Swange to Winspit Quarry is one of my favourite places on earth. The swimming "pool" at Dancing ledge is totally worth it, you can also get into the sea easily at Winspit.

Worth Matravers has a big, donation fee car park and a grand pub "The square and Compass", but if you've got a car and fancy a view northwards, then the short drive to the Scott Arms in Kingston, has a beautiful view overlooking Corfe Castle.

Just about to set off to either Corfe castle or Kingston lacy will definitely do both though I hope. Assume castle is harder work with a pram so will need the carrier?

Weymouth was brilliant yesterday very nice place. Much better than I imagined.

As for Salisbury. My boss lives there. So will be giving that a miss.

I must admit that I find these suggestions that the poor fellow should take in Monkey World and the Bovington Tank Museum quite ridiculous. I've lived in this area since 1977 and have never felt the slightest inclination to visit either of these places. It's summer and there are a multitude of outdoor activities to enjoy in various locations.

Croyde, Morte Point and Heddons bay all look great in the national trust book. On the list in case weather goes south here and is nice there

Did pretty much this today. Although parked in the village and went to Lulworth Cove first.

No exaggeration, easily one of the most incredible places I’ve visited anywhere in the world. Truly stunning

Went there this morning. Great place for the monkeys. And well looked after with tonnes of space to roam about. Just difficult to see them and very very busy even on a tuesday.

But the monkeys look like they have a better life than in the jungle

Tyneham is indeed worth a visit. Head south from the village, up the hill, which will take you high up to the cliff top. Turn right and head towards Worbarrow Bay. Then drop down on the coastal path to the bay. Bypass the beach and ascend to the facing cliff top. Once at the top, turn right and descend back down to the village. An exhilarating round trip hike.
