Not in the squad today. Injured or on his way?

Neither is Long
Although club have said both missing “with injury niggles”

Interesting to see how Gibson and Mee do as a pairing, albeit in a friendly.

Itchy feet perhaps?

Kevin Long played very well on Tuesday Night with some very accurate un rushed passing.

It might be old news but I read Long has been watched by Forest

If Cahill can have the same impact on Dunne that McGreal had on him then it wouldn’t be a bad signing

Are we liking Cahill just because he's an ex player, albeit on loan?

Not against Cahill at all. It’s midfield that’s bothering me.

His car is behind James Hargreaves so unless he’s abandoned it then I’d say he’s just got a knock and isn’t being risked. Chance to see 2 left footed centre halves play together though , which for some reason people seem to think is crazy.

Lose tarky for the right price (£40m+) and get Cahill for one year would be good business. We were never going to keep Tarky forever and personally I think he's a bit overrated and hasn't improved in the last year.
Gibson promoted to first choice with Mee. Cahill a squad player and good mentor (£30k per week for one season about right?)
BUT if the money isn't reinvested in a quality central midfielder it's not good business imo.

Or alternatively, maybe he's just injured, and we have a manager who isn't taking any chances with the first match of the season a week away!

Call me a cynic, but the timing of this after Maguire just left, in a very Jason Shackell style manner, is more than a tad suspicious.
The club said nothing about an injury, and it has for every other pre season game. I hope I’m wrong, obviously.

Thing is, it shouldn’t need us selling Tom Heaton for 9m, Sam Vokes for 6m and James Tarkowski for 50m for us to sign a single central midfielder.
It should require nothing financial to shift for us, at all.

If (and it's a hypothetical 'if' (as yet) Tarkowski leaves and we have Cahill in for a year (or two) then can anyone seriously say CB's of Mee, Cahill & Gibson are weaker than any of the 'top 6' sides? Or in fact stronger than the likes of Man Utd - even with Maguire?

Surely the Tarky money funds a last min off the peg quality prem midfielder ? Long as Gibson slots in with Mee .

You would think that we would want to keep around 40 million for Tarks if he does go hence the 50 million release clause minus the 20% sell on fee for Brentford

You know what, with the advent of VAR, Tarky worries me. He seems to like a sneaky nudge or a tug on a shirt which hasnt been caught as often as before but now i think he might be a little bit found out. Lets take 50m if its on the table

'Slower' has to be subjective.... Tarkowski is hardly sprightly off the mark. Cahill in a Dyche organised defence would not be a detriment to how we play - indeed Cahill in lieu of Tarkowski could well be a huge benefit (despite the age differential)

I'm more worried about Kevin Long leaving us, because I really like the lad. Our longest standing player, kept pace with our ascent and he rarely lets us down. Solid, dependable and very under rated. Knows our framework inside out, which any replacement would have to learn without any real time to do so.
Fortunately the rumour mill is only linking him with Forrest and he would be bonkers to go to that club. Considering their current owner is Evangelos Marinakis. You know, the same cracker jack that we had problems with in the tunnel when we played Olympiacos.
Accusations of drug trafficking, match fixing and blowing up bakeries. The same bloke who fined most of the first team and replaced them with the youth squad to make a point.
Only recently he jokingly told Lamouchi " go up or I will kill you ". I believe the comment was made in jest, but the underlying message was pretty clear. Perform or face the consequences, which explains why Forest have had four managers in the last 2 years.
I wouldn't wish a move to that basket case of a club on anyone. Thankfully, they already have six central defenders.

The only current player with a stand named after him.

I think most people are guessing here.
He might leave, he might stay.
But he was, by several accounts, singing along and supporting his teammates from the stand today. That in itself cancels out any allusions to the Jason Shackell departure.

Not so sure - Brighton are playing three at the back now under their new manager and it looks like Webster is one of the three along with Duffy and Dunk.
