Seeing that Twink advert reminded me of another product from the 50s and later. Can any of our older posters remember bottles of Quink, a stubby blue bottle with a white label containing ink?It actually came up in a quiz I was attending recently asking what did Quink stand for. Not difficult, but can you remember?

Typical day at the Turf,it looks freezing it looks like it's pouring down the mist is descending,if we were playing Chelsea on that day the picture was taken I bet we murdered the southern pansies

I think that pic is from the 1920s but, other than the tram lines, I can remember it looking just like that.

Remarkably the old Brunshaw Road stand had already been there for some 15 years when that photo was taken. I have another of the Turf dated 1905 clearly showing that stand and the Star Stand on the opposite side which eventually, of course, became the Longside.

They even moved the Star Stand back some way in 1909 to accommodate an Enclosure in front for the visit of Man Utd in an FA Cup tie.

Thinking about it a bit more that puts the old Brunshaw Road Stand at least 64 years old when it was finally as good as condemned and stood for it's last game against Sunderland in the last game of the '68/'69 season.

Wasnt it just quick drying ink for your fountain pen?

I can remember we all used to water it down so it lasted. .until it was a very pale sky blue!

I think the man on the right is my great grandfather Jack Naylor who was foreman in the engineer’s department. The shot was taken around 1926 when the system was still being extended despite being only a decade away from closure!

I went in there once, possibly twice, in about 1963 on my way to the Turf with my pals. To be honest, I don't remember much about the interior of the place. My only recollection is that it was a bit dark and dingy, and of course crammed with fans on a match day.

Going off that picture everything looks so clean,and everyone is in their Sunday best,it really is a great picture.

Looking at the Turf in the bottom photo of Yorkshire street, it looks to be misty.
The old alongside before it was concreted was just a bank of old factory boiler clinker and cinders that regularly spontaneously combusted in summer once the sun heated the pile up. The fire brigade was often called to damp down the fires.

My dad used to stand on the old long side when it was cinders and slag. He used to have to wear ankle covering boots because he said when it rained heavily, his feet used to sink down into the top surface and he would actually slide forward and downwards with his boots covered in the cinders and slag.

I had thought initially that it was some sort of confectionary, but I was disavowed of this notion very quickly when I googled " Chocolate Twink " !!

Here's a link to some maps of 1890.

The Burnley East map shows:
Eastman Place, (maybe Eastham) opposite Plumbe St
Albert St, opposite the church
Belvedere Rd, opposite what is now Tod Rd. (not named on the map)

The way to Tod was then up Brunshaw Rd (not named on the map), The map indicates "MS Todmorden 9", a mile stone. I think this is shown in the first pic near the gas lamp
