The number of fans who religiously place bets is scary. Of my group, I'm the only one who won't touch it. It seems nobody can resist an acca.

Sadly it's an addiction though and the charlatans than profit from know this all too well. But whilst they plough enough of their profits back into the PL, nobody cares

I don’t bother with coupons because I’m useless at them, if someone wants to lose £5 on a bet, it’s no different to somebody spending £5 on anything else really, it’s small change so leave them to it

I haven’t placed a bet since I backed Mon Mome £10 each way at 100/1 for the National, back in 2009. I’d only ever bet on the National; a tenner each way on a long-shot horse, and that was my gambling for the year.
I picked Mon Mome because of its meaning(my first daughter had been born a week before). I now consider myself well and truly in front at the Bookies; and that’s how it’s gonna stay.

A mate of ours spends most of the match glued to his phone. He only looks up when the crowd roar. Fair enough, it's up to him how he spends his time and money, but he could do the same sat at home. He doesn't really doesn't watch the match, just looks at his betting app.

This works. It's called matched betting

Loads of money to make from matched betting. I have made about £20k profit over a few different stints and without risk attached. It started to become a little time consuming and harder to make decent money so I packed it in.

Me too Rileybobs although I made around £12k over 18 months or so. The offers dried up after Euro 2016 and I started getting banned from a lot of the sites.

Signups alone can be worth around £800 or so still!

I look forward to wondering why my weekly 2000/1 acca didn’t come in.

Treat it as a bit of fun - it’s far more interesting than popping a couple of quid on the national lottery.

Yeah, the first £1-2k is pretty easy money isn't it. I then rinsed the 2nd to fav offers and the weekend racing and was making comfortably £1000-£1200 per month. When I most recently had a stint last year that had dried up to around £400-500 per month which wasn't worth putting the time in for. The bookies caught onto it and the best accounts were restricted and the 2nd to fav offers were applied to race meetings with loads of runners etc.

Betting is like alcohol....just because you like a bet it doesnt mean to say you have a problem....just like a drink or 2 doesnt make you an alcoholic.....the soone our bookmakers are forced to lay their advertised prices ( similar to Australia ) the better.....the companies keep losing accounts and close down the winners.....thats why there are huge betting swings on horse racing just prior to the race....its the people who cannot bet with the bookies.

Those lay to lose prices are in at some bookmakers.... Paddy Power and Betfair definitely have minimum ltl for all customers, stake limited or not.

Does the 2nd to fav actually come in much? I used to do betfairs weekend one where they give your stake back of you're a winner at 4/1 or above, but got gubbed within about a fortnight

Why bookies are allowed to gub (ban) shrewd betters ( matchbetters ) should be taken up by the government.
I have not been banned by my local supermarket for partaking in their 241 offers

Yeah they used to come in pretty frequently as long as you targeted races with a smallish number of runners (eg. 6-8) and with a favourite which was evens or less. I'd also profit massively from the best price guaranteed. It wasn't unusual for a 4-1 to drift to 6-1 for example and win from a £25 bet, which would give about £48 profit. Occasionally I'd have taken the same offers and placed the same bets on numerous sites so that would be multiplied.

You mean you laid off at 4/1 then bookies odds lengthened? I guess that would mean placing early before the price fluctuates nearer the start time?

Yes, I'd place my bets preferably in the morning, sometimes during my lunch hour. The matches weren't always as close but as a rule I accepted a 10% qualifying loss, so anything up to £2.50 for a £25 bet. So Best Odds Guaranteed was probably more lucrative than the 2nd to fav offer, it offered a double chance of winning.

Nice one, never thought of that really. Just getting back into it after a few months off so might have a look at some of these. I started the extra place offers earlier on in the year but found they were taking far too much time to do

Shows just how much I know about betting. I haven't a clue as to what most of the people on this thread are on about.

I sometimes put a couple of quid on a both-teams-to-score acca and I do a fiver once a year on a promotion acca. The promotion acca keeps me interested in what's going on in the Championship, L1, L2 and the National League.

After I did all the sign ups I only ever did horse refunds and the odd regular weekly offer. Like I say, last time I did it I got gubbed quicker than previous times and when you lose some of the best accounts like B365, PP, Betfair etc. it becomes a lot harder.

Saturday racing is the most lucrative as a number of the bookies offer money back for 2nd which is obviously much higher chance than 2nd to fav.

Same mate, some days it doesn't seem worth it but at the end, if it covers qualifying losses then it makes up for it. Yeah the smaller ones are much harder to get value out of
