Some interesting names in the First Round Draw
Northampton On Chenecks: ON stands for Old Northamptonians an association formed to commemorate, staff pupils and alumni of the local Grammar School killed in WW1. This is their first season in the FA Cup as previously they were unable to meet FA ground regs.
Roman Glass St George The oldest club in Bristol, formed when the original St George's merged with Roman Glass, perhaps they made eyes.
Baffins Milton Rovers formed in 2011 when Baffins Milton and Milton Rovers amalgamated. Their ground is in Portsmouth on the island bit.
Tuffley Rovers sound like they should be playing Melchester next week. However they are a Gloucester team playing in the Hellenic League.
Also watch out for the big Wearside Derby between Sunderland RCA & Sunderland Ryhope CW RCA isn't the record label, it stands for Ryhope Community Association. CW stands for Colliery Welfare and they were formed in 1892 and they have won the Sunderland Shipowners Cup and League Challenge Cup thrice. Strangely enough both sides play in red and white stripes. CW beat RCA for the first time ever last season, they both play in the Northern League . Ryhope is a seaside suburb of Sunderland.

Some wonderful names at this stage.
I’ve just looked at the draw and think we should keep this thread going all season by selecting one club and following them all the way to Wembley or whoever beats them on the way.
We’ve done this before and we started with Padiham because they are the closest to the Turf in this round.
So it’s,
ATHERSLEY RECREATION V PADIHAM

Some wonderful names.....I've just had a lookon the fa website and noticed a few crackers....
Punjab United being one......
Didn't see a Nelson fixture but if they are playing I reckon they will be even closer to the Turf?

Out of interest, how do teams qualify for the FA Cup?
Is it league placing and what's the lowest league that can enter?

You don't qualify, you enter and clubs at a certain level have to enter.

Padiham is closer than Nelson - don't think Nelson play in this round.

Padiham play Marine at home.
Nelson didn't qualify , I think they didn’t finish high enough in the league. My next door neighbour plays for them.

Aye, that's my non league side out already, shame. Lost about 70% of their team this summer to clubs higher up the pyramid. Plus one lad last season went to Burnley for a while, think he's at Barnsley now.

Jordan Barnett - he joined us during 2017/18 but was released at the end of the season. He is now in his second season with Barnsley and scored this week for their u23 team.

Sitting 12th in the hellenic premier.
6 points from opening 6 games.
Will be a very tight league this year.
From what I have seen Westfields and Binfield should be the top two

Looks like Colne have had a big turnover of players over the summer. From their team on Saturday there was only really Alex Coleman and Lee Pugh at left back who I recognised.

Colne drew 0-0 at home to Ossett so need a replay on Tuesday to decide that one. Seems like our ex youth teamer Alex Coleman is playing right back these days.

Marine 1-2 Dunston on Saturday so we move on with Dunston.
Have we ever been drawn against the team we're following from the early rounds?

Just had a look at my new team's ground. Sporting Bengal United play at Mile End Leisure Centre Stadium. You need a real good set of binoculars if you stand behind the goal. There's a running track and half a field events area between you and the nearest goal. It holds some 2k with just over 400 seated. They share it with Tower Hamlets FC and Beaumont Athletic FC (I wonder how that works as Tower Hamlets play in the same league and Beaumont play in the Inner London league, which as far as I can ascertain is not a Sunday league).
Watch this space for more interesting facts and anecdotes about the lads.

There are quite a few rules to account for. First, you need to play in a senior league. That's down to step 6, generally anything below that and you are an intermediate club.
The applicant must have entered the FA vase or the FA trophy the year before. A newly promoted club to step 6 will probably have to wait a couple of years then. Maybe more.
Don't get yourself banned. Playing an ineligible player and then lying about it will do the trick for that one, won't it Amersham town. For a significant number of years.
Have a qualifying ground grading. That used to be more of an issue, but the more stringent ground requirements for step 5 and 6 means that most of them qualify now.
Finally, there's some sort of FA test that works out available numbers and which step 6 sides should get those places. There is, presumably a formula for that bit but I don't profess to know what it is - save to day that it would appear to be more equitable than uefa co - efficients.

Good chance for Colne to progress far in these qualifying rounds. I'd guess that if they can pass Ossett and then Dunston they'll be pretty close to Round 1 proper.

They are three rounds away now from Round 1 - so they would need to be Ossett, Dunston and then one more to get there.

Two goals in a minute and it is Ossett 0-2 Colne in the 22nd minute, if Colne win it will be the furthest they have ever got in the FA Cup.
