My Satnav pronounces it Barnley perhaps the fragrant Ms Scott (looking forward to Strictly with her on it ) is the voice for Satnavs

It's more of an accent / dialect thing, so for her pronouncing it 'Barnley' isn't incorrect.

The same with the word 'Punt' and similar sounding words, we emphasise the U vowel more harshly than Southern or "BBC English".
