Re: Burnley F C in pictures
I was going to say Peter Robinson but for some reason changed my suggestion to Terry Cochrane! The fact that he was wearing a hat caused doubt. Looking more closely the player in question has a bigger ‘frame’ than some of those suggested.minnieclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 12:31 amPeter Robinson, I think. You’re right he was and I think the picture is the season before he arrived anyway.

I think we are on different photos. Peter Robinson is in the b&w and colour squad photos at the bottom of previous page.beeholeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 7:14 amI was going to say Peter Robinson but for some reason changed my suggestion to Terry Cochrane! I agree with a previous poster that the guy in the hat is Ray Hankin, the nose is the clue and the bigger frame.
Re: Burnley F C in pictures
Rob Higgins and yes it's Peter Robinson next to Alan Stevenson, on team photo.

Re the Steve1956 photo. It is Eddie Cliff in the middle and was taken in the old RawtenstallMunicipal Hall, now I believe the site of the new bus station.

Re: Burnley F C in pictures
Definitely Peter Robinson - scored a league goal against Blackburn. Decent player but moved to the Netherlands.

When Peter Robinson finished playing football, he returned to the North East. Where he has had a career teaching and recently retired.

Once saw George Best and Brian Clough there at a Sportsmans Dinner.
More years ago than I care to remember!

Flares were awful; even at the time. Taffy wins the prize there hands down
Re: Burnley F C in pictures
Ray Hankin looks like he’s adjusting his grip for an off break or a googly. I bet he wondered where the wickets were when he ran up.

Blimey, what game might this have been?........a testimonial for Jim Thomson, perhaps?
Anyway, I recognise a few........Adam Blacklaw, Ray Pointer, Sammy Todd, Les Latcham, Ray Ternent, Dave Merrington, Jimmy Robson, Freddie Smith, Frank Casper.
Alex Stepney, Jim Thomson, Francis Lee, Keith Newton, Ronnie Clayton & John Connelly.

Roger Hunt, Ian Callaghan & possibly Brian Hall on the front row.

Is one of the liners Gordon Lee? A top division one ref and a guy who was always listed as being from Leicester, but according to my dad was originally born and brought up in Waterfoot.
Is the ref Taylor, the world cup ref?

Possible good shout for Gordon HILL. I believe he taught at BRGS before moving to Leicester. He did our semi against Newcastle Utd.
Guy with his arms draped around Sadler is Wilf McGuiness.
Gordon Lee managed our neighbours.

Re: Burnley F C in pictures
Of course I meant Gordon Hill, not Lee, who as someone rightly says was actually a manager at Rovers, Everton and Newcastle amongst others. My blunder.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 4:41 pmJack Taylor not on photo.

I think the ref could well be David Scott.
