4 of us had planned to get train from Burnley to Manchester yesterday for a day out but the Northern train service on that route was cancelled!

Ended up getting the X43 on a group ticket that cost £19 return for the 4 of us as opposed to £9 each on the train.

That can be a problem but we had a Chinese buffet before the return trip so the salt content soaked up the excess alcohol long enough to make it home without having to cross our legs for an hour

Cheapest fare I've seen on there was the standard daily fare.

I keep getting offers for travelodge m8 similar .... have managed a few cheap deals though with them and Premier Inn .. all you have to do is use them when the offers are on (OK for us retired types)

Jus get the next train and dont pay

If your train is cancelled and you’ve booked in advance you can get the next available train. If all trains are cancelled/it’s the last train of the day they have to get you to your destination either by coach or pay for a taxi for you. If you want to know more look up Northern or which ever train operating company you’re traveling with a terms and conditions.
You can also claim for delay repay but if you’ve only payed 10p though you’ll only get 5p-10p back so wouldn’t really be worth the effort.
