Well since he had his application for his Austrian passport rejected and both his parents are English then I guess he can play for England

But any fear that this stellar spell was just a flash in the pan has been well-and-truly dispelled in these formative Premier League stages, with the 29-year-old already boasting four goals to his name, while having the fourth-best goals per 90 minutes ratio (1.4) and best shots per 90 (4.6 for players with 200+ minutes).

What's even more impressive is not just Barnes' form in front of goal, but his overall gameplay, with the old school forward possessing that Diego Costa-esque bullishness which gives defenders nightmares for weeks.

Indeed, traditional No 9s are in vogue at the minute, and Barnes is a standard-bearer of these throwback centre-forwards, but if he keeps up his sensational form, he could be this season's surprise Golden Boot package.

Selfishly I hope not, there is the injury risk plus his head could get turned. I don't think he is a Southgate style player either.

If he played for another club he would probably be in contention for an England call up...Not while he is a Burnley payer...No one likes us etc...

Yeah, I know he’s British, but he qualified to play for Austria (like loveable cockney Tony Cascarino qualified for the Republic of Ireland cos he’d once been on a stag do in Dublin) and I think they came to look at him.

Obviously nothing materialised...

Moneyball style player. His statistics are fantastic and if you actually pay close attention to his contributions on the pitch there is no denying he has fantastic skill and technique. But luckily for us he’s not very fashionable, I don’t know the reasons why, but he’s unlikely to attract the top clubs or indeed the England manager.

By most modern rules he did but not by the right wing Austrian rules. This is acceptable because Ash doesn’t play right wing.

This is a stupid as them Norwich fans who think Barcelona are going to nab Pukki off them as he’s scored a few in the first couple of games of the seasons. Barnes won’t play for England while at Burnley that’s for sure. He’s too old now anyway. Southgate will play Abraham, even though he’s nowhere near good enough, but he plays for ‘Frank Lampard’s Chelsea’ as they are now known.

Don't think he will play for England while with us and I don't want him to. Don't want him in the shop window. He's our golden goose that keeps giving (I never thought I'd say that at one time) and I don't want anything to spoil what we've got going on just now.

Not sure he is an England style striker. If he starts notching a lot of goals this season ( early days yet) he won’t be ignored though. His all round game suits us and I personally like a ‘Costa’ like centre forward.

If he did play for England, it would remind me of Steve Bull playing.

I think it would be an advantage as a striker, that he offers something no other England forward does. Bringing like for like strikers on doesn't frighten the opposition. I'd try him, but I dont think Southgate will.
I'd also be seriously worried about holding onto him, if he ever did.
