It was one of those days today that hits you every season where the temperature drops and you know it’s time for the season to end.
Poor season for cricket unfortunately, hate it ending though

Colne got one hand on the trophy after beating Bacup by 6 wickets. Unfortunately Middleton won as well so think Colne need 2 points next week to make sure. The Price is right went past 1000 league runs for the season, think he finished on about 70 not out. Big following set to travel to Enfield next week

Have the Burnley lads still only got one 50 between them all season?
Or as that changed over the last couple of weeks?
Terrific job by the bowlers to win the league if true.

Been a couple more over the last few weeks. Joey Marshall got 50 odd yesterday.
Very strong bowling attack and will only be stronger next season

Played against him yesterday. Looks a decent cricketer to be honest, bowled well and was really unfortunate with the bat. Ran down the pitch to our pro, who was bowling quickly and smashed one straight to cover. Our fielder had two choices, catch it, or die...

Padiham had the chance to sign Pussy Galore before he signed for Barlick. We had the choice of two Sri Lankans from the same agent.
We chose the other who was a fast bowling all rounder but never had the right paper work to come over in the end.
Laughter was high in the room when his name was heard.

So what’s the final day points scenario ? Can Burnley still lose and win the title assuming house get max points

Yes. Burnley win the league if they win the match, or tie it, or both games are rained off. But they can also get 2 bonus points for bowling out the opponents, and up to 5 more bonus points if they get close to winning. Losers get between 0 and 7 points.

Anybody remember 64 ( I think ) final. Burnley with Charlie Griffith v Rishton. Jackie Chew got a 50 and his collection was probably way more than he ever earned playing for the Clarets. Big big crowd. Anybody know how many or the receipts ?

The Lancashire League website gets far too little publicity and use. It's a wonderful resource - the cricketing equivalent of Up The Clarets, if you like. (But without the forum!)
http://lancashireleague.com/Seasons/196 ... 4_MR1.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But as you can read in the match report, the gate was £713 8/- and the collection for Jackie Chew isn't stated; but Keith Williams got £74 10/-.
(To convert it into inflation-adjusted modern prices, multiply by 17. So the gate is equivalent to £12,000 and the collection to £1,250.)

In 1947, colne's pro George Pope was selected to play for England in the Victory Test against the rest of the world. He objected - the match fee was only £10 and from that he had to pay his expenses and pay a sub-pro for Colne. So he refused to play, and played instead for Colne against Nelson. In which he scored a fifty and got a collection of £26. (Multiply by 36 for inflation, so £950.)

I think if we had that many people on our terracing these days it might just all collapse onto the pitch!!

That gate of £713 8 shillings was at a time when it was 2 shillings admission for an adult, so the attendance would have been in excess of 7,000 if there had been no pensioners or kids. The attendance was in excess of 10,000 that afternoon. The start had to be delayed because they shortened the boundary in front of the old pavilion to allow the kids to sit on the grass.
You used to have to get on long before the start to get a seat for league games but that day was something else in terms of the attendance. I've never witnessed anything like it since.

Jackie Chew must have been black and blue after that game. He certainly earned every penny of his collection. Great day except for the result
