I don't mind coffee but I can't drink it out of those plastic/cardboard cups. I really can't stand those long wooden stirrers either.

Those long wooden stirrers are ace.

I used to use them to plug enlarged screwholes when replacing locks in wooden doors :D and other useful uses

Beddie, if you sit in your “drink” is served in conventional crockery. I agree that the plastic and cardboard cups are very disagreeable btw (purely from a waste perspective).

I remember finding it very cheeky of them to wait until another coffee chain had opened up in Burnley, proving that there is a market, then they opened up slap bang opposite.

Of the two things I miss the least about the UK, one of them is the coffee, be it Costa or any other brand. It’s bloody awful. Actually it’s not the coffee, it’s that they don’t offer half and half

Read a decent book once about how Starbucks started out and became so successful and it said that when a Starbucks (or any other national chain coffee shop) opened in an area, it actually increased business for the other coffee shops around it as people became more accustomed to a coffee ‘culture’ and would go from place to place, which would encourage word of mouth and so on. There’s about four in one small area in Burnley centre and they all do well.

The fact that one of the more prized coffee beans is picked out of lemur crap says a lot about coffee snobs

The journalist who exposed Costa Coffee working conditions, Hanna Yusuf, has tragically died aged 27.

She revealed employees' complaints alleging managers' refusal to pay for sickness or annual leave, working outside of contracted hours and the retention of tips.

Costa is dreadful. Only drink it when no alternative or out of convenience.

And they’re almost always scruffy, dirty and untidy. And while I don’t mind Nero less said about the state of their bathroom in Manchester next door to primarni.
