I didn't realise Raith played in Kircaldy,just joined their equivalent to "Up the Clarets" ......they are top of the league,Kircaldy is about 12 miles from me and East Fife about 10, Im wondering which club to follow to get my football fix,one and two in Division 1,anyone on here been to any of the grounds,and any ideas on which to follow? Kircaldy's ground looks massive from outside but has a capacity just short of 9,000,East Fife is in Leven which is a bit rough,bet a Derby between these two Scottish Giants is a fun affair

I follow Raith Rovers, watched them in the cup final at Hampden against Celtic. Also watched them away at Ayr United.

Got to be Raith Rovers. I used to follow their fortunes when I lived in Glenrothes. Of course you also have Dunfermline and Cowdenbeath nearby.... it's a hotbed!

I visited East Fife approximately 2003. It was a fairly new ground as I recall with one cantilevered stand.

Followed Raith Rovers scores and fortunes since being a young lad.
Just loved how their name sounded on the football result broadcasts.

I've got family in Glenrothes and Burntisland who are Raith Rovers fans. Took me to Starks Park once when they were in the top division and drew 1-1 with Aberdeen. So it's the boys from Kirkcaldy for me.

Plus that ground at Leven is right next to the Forth so it is bloody freezing.

Surely its East Fife end of discussion .... No self respecting Claret could be associated with a team called Rovers unless they have an affinity for equine diversions.

If I moved to the Bristol area it would be City I watched ... or Doncaster .. then I would go to Sunny Scunny (who also play in the Claret and Blue as well )

Brilliant Macca...close thread.

Was in Fife a couple of years ago and, for the hell of it, took a look at both grounds (and also the stock car stadium which is home to Cowdenbeath "The Blue Brazil"). I think I would go for Raith , notwithstanding the unfortunate "Rovers" name. East Fife is located in Methil which has to be one of the roughest places I've ever seen. Get's a mention in the Proclaimers anthem Letter From America along with Bathgate and Linwood as examples of modern day economic decay...the economy was built on coal mining.
I wouldn't say Kirkcaldy is Las Vegas but it seemed a better place and the stadium had a couple of decent sized stands as opposed to East Fife's modest non-League type environment.

True story. When I moved back to Lancashire, in ‘74, we were shopping in Accy and I saw lots of BRFC graffiti and wondered when Bristol Rovers had taken over Accy. At the time they could possibly have been a league above our neighbours.

Drove past Raith's ground about 6 weeks ago. I played Aberdour golf course (Burntisland) and was en-route up to Crail so went through Kirkcaldy. If East Fife is rougher than Raith then it must be bloody wild

I believe Gordon Brown (ex PM) is from Kirkaldy and supports Raith and I once walked past the ground, but I've never been in. HOWEVER, I used to have a good mate who had moved from Scotland to Colne and lived and worked there or several years. When he subsequently returned to Scotland he lived in Coupar and he began watching East Fife. When I went up to visit him he told me that after buying a season ticket and going on 3 consecutive home games they'd approached him to join the board!!! Last heard he was still very committed to the cause!! Therefore I definitely think that's where you should go!!

Did you try the lobster hut in Crail Harbour CJ,I live just down the coast in Elie,it's the most beautiful peaceful place ..the east Neuk of Fife,The coastline from Elie to Crail is truly beautiful

Roughest area for a Scottish Ground I have seen is Airdrie. Wouldn’t like to be an away fan walking back to my car round there.

Go for Raith Rovers all the way great old ground albeit two newish stands behind both goals, East Fife is a soulless dump of a place! One stand and a brick wall for the other three sides

Central Park Cowdenbeath is the Wembley of the North if you get the chance to go it’s a must

I saw us play at East Fife back in 1973 in the Texaco Cup but the ground we played at then is long gone.

Bayview was demolished in 1997 when they moved to New Bayview which is not a patch on the old ground, unfortunately a common theme throughout the UK

As Mel correctly points out you need to support Cowdenbeath, they are the official Scottish team for Clarets.

Been to Central Park twice and seen us triumph 1-0 against Clyde and 4-2 against Queens Park.

After Celtic's defeat at the weekend,East Fife are the only unbeaten team in the Scottish leagues,they have drawn a lot of games however.

I worked in Methil for 18 months and it is BY FAR the roughest place I've ever lived. I had never dialed 999 in my life before and it became almost a weekly occurrence.

I ran the local heritage centre and we did an exhibition on the history of East Fife. They are still the only second division team that ever won the Scottish Cup, in 1938. The Scottish FA lent us the Scottish Cup for 3 days. The stipulations were that we had to insure it for £2 million, have security guards with it at all times, and keep it in the police station safe overnight.

We hired slightly dodgy (I.e. cheap) security and when we arrived at the police station they arrested my security guard for possession of a stolen vehicle. So I ended up personally carrying the Scottish Cup down to the heritage centre, about a mile away!

Spent a 'lost weekend' in Kirkcaldy once in the 70's. Me and a mate went to visit some people who we met at Knebworth when Floyd played there. We parked the car outside Raith's ground. One of my disappointments in life was copping off with a really good looking blond girl, going to bed with her and.....promptly passed out. Woke up to find her gone...someone told me shed gone off with an ex-boyfriend who was at the same party. I was left nursing a very sore head.

For the record, it was 7-0 at home and 3-2 away, Houseboy. In the next round we beat Hearts 5-0 on t'Turf and 3-0 at Tynecastle.

And Bristol Rovers' colours are blue-and-white quarters; not halves. Dodgy enough, but not that dodgy.

Sorry bud - I had a feeling it was 3-2 away but got mixed up with the battering of Hearts. Are you sure it was 7-0 at home though - I thought we got 8? Maybe I was thinking about the 8-0 aggregate against Hearts. It's all so very long ago.

Ha ha no mate but I know who you mean - that was my next door neighbour. It was a guy you wouldn't know called Tony Martin from Tottington - we had a holiday bumming around in his car for two weeks - it took in Kirkcaldy, London, Newquay, Great Yarnmouth and Woverhampton (don't ask). We did a lot of miles.
