How many applauses today? Read there is one on the 60th minute....and then just read of one on 56 mins.
Sad people have died but this is getting ridiculous
Also like Oxford and Manchester universities should we not be more inclusive and do jazz hands instead

It’s getting a bit of a nonsense, frankly. There‘a a memorial game every year.
We’ll be at the stage where we’re clapping for the full 90 minutes soon.

I personally don’t partake in this “minute’s clapping” stuff. It’s a load of bo11ocks, as far as I’m concerned.

Yep. It’s bad enough having a minutes silences for everything at football matches.
A match is neither the time nor place for this sort of thing.

I understand some but you have to draw the line somewhere, I wouldn’t want the applause when I pop my clogs, wouldn’t mind my picture on the scoreboard before the game or at half time for 10 seconds though

I think it's too much also but whilst people continue to clap then the requests will keep coming in

The Leicester game on 19th January is this season’s designated game for remembering those Clarets who have passed away in the previous year. A minute’s silence will be observed before kick off.
I’m aware of two committed Burnley fans, both long term season ticket holders, who have died since the last home game. Both will be remembered on that day.

The line can easily be drawn. The club should say no and it can be part of the annual one.

For those who want to show respect take time out of their lives and go to the funeral rather than follow like sheep and clap for someone they have never met.
By all means have a pic on screen before the match or at half time.

Agree. It's all this social media stuff where people live their lives in public view and want their or friends/relations death to be public as well so the coverage continues. When I go the place to show respect will be in the phone box where all my numerous friends (both of them ) can converge.

Wow..Get a grip guys.. Such an insensitive time to start a thread like this..How would you feel if you was related to one of the deceased and had to read this drivel just before attending the game..

It's getting ridiculous now, feels like its every home game. People go to football for a bit of an escape from everyday life, not to have other peoples grief imposed on them. Time for the club to say enoughs enough or else the annual memoriam game in January will become meaningless if we have a minutes applause every week.

I think everyone understands and appreciates that but this is not personal, this is a response to it happening match after match. There was a similar thread a few weeks back. I think the only way it stops is if people didn’t applaud.

No it isn’t. It’s well overdue. It’s making a mockery of the actual act of remembrance, people just robotically clapping because they’re told to, sometimes three or four times a game. There’s a memorial game to remember lives sadly lost every year, not clapping every game - it’s not what the game is about.

I didn't say it was personal Tony ..I didn't say I didn't agree with it,all I am saying is it could have been discussed at a better time than this..

So what happens when deceased person a gets more applause then deceased person b will that upset family and friends as they thought they were more popular and feel let down by complete strangers for not doing a rousing hurrah with chants of for he's/she's a jolly good fellow ?
Just use the in memoriam game and remember all Clarets then.

It happens so often now its lost all meaning. Half the stadium are clapping along with no idea what it's actually for, it's all become a bit ridiculous tbh.

It is a club matter when they show the pic in the appropriate minute.
As long as all the sheep among us join in the club will believe fans are in favour of it

There was a thread on this board recently that I started to let people know that Jock (Andrew Bannerman) had passed away. His picture appeared on the big screen during the Everton game (although no applause on the day) so yes, the club do accept them, but I wasn’t aware they promoted these applauses via social media.

Hampstead Claret received many heartfelt tributes and was laid to rest yesterday after a short illness.
His family had been planning to take him on this game today whatever way they could , Alas the game came too late for Mick. They will be at the game and meeting up afterwards in Burnley , where Mick was born, sadly only 64 years ago.
Mick's picture will be on the big screen and he will be there in spirit I'm sure. All his family and friends will be on the game from all parts of the country and I hope as many of the contributors and readers of this board join in the applause as possible.
Always proud to be a Claret.

People go to the Turf to watch football, not go for a pint when their enjoyment of watching is interrupted.

We will lose roughly 300 committed fans every year and the annual memorial game is the perfect way to remember them collectively. With the greatest possible respect to those being recognized today, I don't agree with doing individual minute's applauses.

Whilst I respect people don’t want to join in clapping etc.I just don’t get people putting a negative opinion on here because of it.Justthink if it was one of your loved ones and the deceased had a wish for this to happen maybe? Are the family wanted to do it? Just find it a bit insensitive, ok don’t join in but to vent your dismay of it on here when the family members are reading the posts lacks a bit of class imo.Just because you didn’t know them wow!

I've been asked by the family to share this with you -
A lifelong Claret and season ticket holder at the Turf , Rishtoner Nigel Easton, sadly passed away suddenly last monday at the age of 60.
To celebrate his life and his love for Burnley Football Club a message and picture of him will be displayed on the big screen during the 60th minute of match against Chelsea on Saturday.
Many of Nigel's family will be in attendance, some of them travelling the length of the country and from abroad.
It would mean a lot to his family if as many of you as possible could help spread the message to others and to join us in applauding Nigel during the 60th minute.
Sadly he won't be there in person but I'm sure he will be looking down on the boys and cheering them on to 3 points!
Feel free to share this post and to tag any friends you know will be attending the game. Thank you!

The club have made a rod for their own back now. I agree they're probably worried about appearing to be insensitive if they stop doing it now but the line has to be drawn somewhere, 3 times in one game is ridiculous.

I think the club responding along these lines would be entirely reasonable and far more proportionate: "our sincere condolences to you and your family at your sad loss; we are happy to mark his/her passing...at the annual memorial event." If a small handful of people would be offended by that they would be acting unreasonably.

I often remember my Dad privately when I am at t’turf as it was him who first took me there.
He passed away 11 years ago but it would have meant nothing to him or me by 6,000 strangers clapping.
Just my opinion but I am entitled to it and in no way do I think I am being insensitive. The people who really mattered showed their respects at the funeral and exchanged memories and stories at the wake.

I completely agree but it's those who act unreasonably that make the most noise.
BFC is seen as a real community club and there is potential for that reputation to be damaged.

Does the club charge for the privilege?
Best thing to do would be to say that from next season all are restricted to the designated game.

Lets have this right.....nobody over the age of 30 surely gives a toss that when they die they get a round of applause in the minute of their age at time of passing. They didnt grow up in this pointless social media age where everybody wants 15 mins of fame online. I am sure that the 3 we are now being expected to clap would not have given a toss about strangers clapping them. They would want them cherishing the times they spent together.
