Hasn’t he referenced our own Ashley Barnes?

he's gone down in my estimation for even agreeing to go on that station.

He's rightly keeping this issue in the media.
Diving is the worst thing in footy and killing the game from a spectator point of view.

Keep at it Sean and put pressure on cheats and the media to call it out.

But when Ashley Barnes does it it's just "clever play" presumably?

My understanding of Sean’s position is that if there is contact and one party ends up on the floor then that is ok. Regardless of which party I initiated contact or who ends on the floor. He is incensed by players going to ground without being touched.

I think that sounds fair to me.

One thing you always get with Ashley Barnes is contract. Whether it is Ashley doing the fouling or being fouled depends on the referee as much as anything.

Ashley is the one being fouled 99% of the time

I agree. He is ignored by many refs because he has a name for going down, but there is almost always plenty of contact and he is usually at the receiving end of a foul. I can't say Ashley has dived outright, to cheat in the way that Dyche is going on about.

Also the MOTD aside comment calling him "Sean Dive" was perhaps a sign of intent that that the media (at least the BBC) are going to fight his fight.

To be fair, the 1% was a 50/50

I think we have to let the issue drop because it will come back to bite if one of ours is deemed to have “taken a dive” and Dyche will be expected then to condemn the player. Virtually all players look to exploit the situation and Ashley is very good at it however it is a fine line and I can remember one last year near the Bob Lord when he went down expecting contact and the opposing player was not near him as he backed away and it raised a laugh at the time, now with Dyche making an issue an incident like that could come back to “bite”.

Not going to happen....and why should it ? It’s something he has consistently spoken out against not just via the media but also at the managers meetings and anywhere else he can.
It’s funny how those who bring out the Ashley Barnes argument are the same ones who hardly have a good word to say about Dyche or the club. If any of these people can send a link of an example where Barnes has dived where there has not been contact feel free to post it.
All Barnes does it what many strikers in the past have done - they give as good as they get against centre backs who are often bigger than them and barging into the back of them for half of the game.
If Barnes or any of our players were to dive in the penalty area to deceive the referee trying to get a penalty there would be little Dyche could do about this to stop it happening. I am 100% sure that his players are told not to do this....but if one did I’m even surer that they would be punished internally by Dyche.
Jim White on TalkSPORT was right behind what Dyche was saying. The likes of that jug eared t-it Lineker make a joke about it because they know they have players in their team who dive (Vardy regularly....Maddison got caught earlier in the season too).

I can’t get my head round why any Burnley fan who has watched the game or played it would not get behind Dyche on this. It’s pathetic watching players do it every week. Rugby Union puts football to shame in so many respects.

I did not want my post to look as though it was criticising Dyche or Barnes it just that if you put yourself as the “flag bearer” of anti diving you have to be whiter than white and other clubs, the media and refs will be looking at us more closely to try and catch us doing it.

To be

James at Man U seems to dive regularly and usually gets away with it.

Sure Arfield took a dive & was booked (at Everton I think) and Dyche did condemn him in the post match

These 'new young players' all seem to have the 'skill'.

What a great shame that before their career has really begun, they will be forever tarnished.

Shame on football, shame on them.

You could be right. It is a long time ago and I’m a bit older now

It might have been him saying something along the lines if it was a dive he would condemn him.

20 years agoo diving was rare and condemned by everyone. If it can arrive over time, it can be eliminated over time. The authorities have to want to do it though.

I remember my dad used to tell me that Harry Potts could be fouled on the centre spot and he would land in the penalty area.

As I said Dyche can only make it clear to all his players that diving will not be tolerated. When they cross the white line there is nothing he can do if one of our players decides to dive - if they did SD would be fully aware how this might come back on him and the club so my guess would be that he reinforces this to his players even more.
I don’t know if we are “whiter than white” as you put it - but can’t think of a team in the premier league who has had less instances of alleged diving than Burnley in the last 6 or 7 years.

As I said some fans are too quick to criticise SD for anything - it puzzles me what they want or why they bother following the club if they are “sick” of him talking about subjects like this. Do they enjoy watching other players dive ?

I remember when Jurgen Klinsmann signed for Sours. He was Europe's best diver.

He never dived in the prem. He said it was not something which was done here, so he would honour that - and did.

He was brilliant for the prem. Very intelligent and articulate.

Does he i'm sure he's been yellow-carded a couple of times this season,it's bizarre because he's one of the United players that looks like he can create something with his pace,he doesn't need to resort too the theatrics, but some player's can't seem to help themselves.
