How Can

How can a seasoned premier league team get absolutely smashed off Sheffield United in their first season in the league ?

Because we don’t invest well enough. Because people still think Hendrick is “a good en” , because we don’t have 1 player with a bit of spark , bit of trickery . All our players are the same , dull and boring , there’s only Brady who has a spark and he’s shite to .

Our back 4 and keeper are decent , that’s it. Embarrassing.

It's midfield that's been the problem to me.We need to spend some decent money and attract a goal scoring box to box leader. Difficult with our budget but we if we want to progress to the next level and not get left behind it's the only way forward.

Don't worry pal Danny Drinkwater is going to come into the midfield and he's going to solve all our problems ..watch this space it's going to be absolutely fantastic.

You can only score so many wonder strikes , set play goals or goals from deep crosses before teams wise up.

You've got to have the ability to create a goal , or able to break down a stubborn side.
Theres a reason we've only come from a losing position to win in the PL once, we create very little , even less so when behind and desperate.

The back 4 is not good they are shocking. No idea how to play out and constantly put themselves under pressure by not reading the game

Dunno, ask Spurs when we did them 4-2 in our first PL season which ended with Laws in charge.

Because we have a real problem with solving issues before they start to really hurt us.

-Cork and Lowton are still undisputed, practically unchallenged starting XI players.

-Dwight McNeil is still our only creative outlet

-It has taken until us being 3-0 down to a newly promoted side for Dyche to wonder whether Charlie Taylor, one of our best players last season, might just be worth playing over Erik Pieters

Before we know it instead of having one or two problem positions, it’ll be 3-4 all at once. And that’s ultimately what happens when you go over 2 years without using the transfer market to strengthen the starting XI.

Wasnt that 3 or 4 days after they beat City to secure a Champions League spot and theyd all been out on the p*ss celebrating for a few days prior to the meaningless game against us

Because Sheffield United are a very good and hard to beat team who have been performing well and surprising a lot of other teams.

https://www.transfermarkt.com/sheffield ... erb_id/GB1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The problem is that while the teams they faced in their initial matches could be excused for being caught with their pants down after 10 matches we didn't have that luxury.

Their main weakness, at the moment, is that if anything should happen to Stevens or Baldock they will be a lot less effective given their current backups. Stevens and Baldock are a big part of what makes their formation tick and without them I think they would struggle to keep everything at the same high performance level.

I would argue that Drinkwater fits that role, providing we can get him playing to somewhere near good enough. I certainly hope he does and we get him permanently (subject to him playing well of course)

There style was never going to be comfortable for our rigid 4-4-2. Cork & Westy against the bodies they move through midfield wasn’t enough.
Take it on the chin and move on.

On the main point we have been lightweight in midfield for far too long. It’s been commented on here for 3 years at least. They work their arses off for us but are lacking in physique and ability against the best. If they have a less than 90% day against the rest we are in trouble.

Pretty much, but that wasn't the point.

A seasoned PL team was turned over by newbies.

Of course it’s the point ... he’s explaining HOW . What’s your explanation? Let me guess , we just had a bad day ? We miss wood ( who this board slag off at any opportunity) , explain how ?
When we got promoted we were getting smashed off teams like West Brom , stoke etc ... we are meant to be at their levels now but no we are shite . It’s built on a normally solid back line , with absolutely no flair . What player gets you off your seat ? None . It’s **** , depressing and like I said embarrassing. Let’s pin our hopes on a young winger who cost f all .

Spurs didn't qualify for the champions league.

I think Spurs had to win that day and Arsenal had to lose for them to get 3rd place.
Sure Arsenal were 2-0 up at half time which is probably one of the reasons Spurs put up the white flag.

At the levels of WBA and Stoke?
We are a league above them now but hey ho

Yeah we did have a bad day, it happens to us a few times in a season, like it does for the majority of teams in the PL incase you were ignoring that fact.

When we were turning over teams in our first season in the PL were you complaining that it was embarrassing for those teams?
Probably not, we just got caught out and we won't be the only team Sheff Utd do it to either.

I think this is true but it required Arsenal losing at home to Fulham which was a very long shot.

As per the link Spurs had achieved their main objective midweek against City and been out on the p*ss instead of preparing for our game.

The Arsenal situation kept their interest for a bit before their midweek antics caught up with them and they completely ran out of steam and motivation
