Aparantly hes been sent home for confronting Gomez. Obviously wasnt happy about being picked up like a child

Just as he was starting to win the England fans over as well. What a berk.

he hasn't been sent home, he's been omitted from the team for the first game, has apologised to the team and Gomez and it's been accepted.

He’s a remarkable player that’s never been in doubt , but a sensitive soul ( not the 1st or last either) I see Southgate has admitted there was an “ altercation in a private area” Though in all fairness if he hadn’t been Sterling it probs wouldn’t have even leaked out

Something missing upstairs or an ability to cut through some of the uncomfortable truths that are accepted as normal in the UK today?

Look at some of the things he said prior to, and after his move from Liverpool, not the brightest, and grabbing a team mate round the throat whilst representing your country, again not the brightest thing to do, so yes, a little missing upstairs

Give the lad a break for goodness sake. These things happen. He's been brilliant to watch so far this season. Obviously we don't know the exact circumstances of the incident but regardless of that I would have expected Southgate to have resolved it without the need to send him home.

Every time I think Sterling maybe worth me not thinking he is up himself, something happens to make me spend another couple of months with him on the naughty step again. He is still in my fantasy footie side as I have to accept I have no moral compass at times and this manager will not be dropping him to the bench!!

I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering what this long list of things that Sterling has done actually is. I can't really think of anything prior to this (plenty of players have said that they want to leave to win trophies, I'm not sure why Sterling is singled out for this given he's gone on to win multiple trophies).

Not much of an incident really, bit of a "to do" with a team mate. I'm guessing that the thing Southgate didn't like was that it was a "carry-over" from a club game rather than something that arose in England training.
Southgate's reaction seems about right- he's got to do something to stop club-feud hangovers affecting the national team but without blowing up a little to-do (assuming the two have kissed and made up).
Out for one game to mull it over but not sent home seems reasonable all round to me.

The "uncomfortable truth" in this case was that Man City lost to Liverpool on Sunday. A truth accepted in the UK which there is no point trying to overturn.

I suspect he's had a few ' breaks' in his career which have generally gone his way. Knowing how to lose seems anathema to some footballers.

Gomez should be the last one to try to push someone into the hoarding on purpose, as he suffered an injury at the Turf which was purely accidental.

The ill feeling in the match was not helped by some weak refereeing and Liverpool being allowed to get away with some hefty challenges when City had a player yellow carded. Very much a homer ref at Anfield.

I'd say all top level sports players will have a built in hatred of losing. Can't imagine the likes of Tiger Woods or Cristiano Ronaldo being much fun to be around after they've lost. Has to be a factor in why they're so successful, compared to performers who might have similar levels of ability but not the same drive to succeed.
