Then he wonders why he's criticised. He's a fool unto himself.

Shame that. He has just started to make our attack look like one of the best in the world. What did he ‘confront’ Gomez about anyway?

I could be completely wrong, but I suspect it's the continuation of the fallout between their respective Clubs last Sunday.

he hasn't been sent home, he's been omitted from the team for the first game, has apologised to the team and Gomez and it's been accepted.

I’d probably wait until it’s revealed what happened, we seem to have a habit of jumping down Sterling’s throat without the facts and it’s usually massively over exaggerated

The Longside made his career by giving him a kick up the arse with the” you let your country down “ song. Send him round we’ll sort him out again

I rate him as a footballer, but he certainly has something missing upstairs

He’s a remarkable player that’s never been in doubt , but a sensitive soul ( not the 1st or last either) I see Southgate has admitted there was an “ altercation in a private area” Though in all fairness if he hadn’t been Sterling it probs wouldn’t have even leaked out

A sensitive soul or somebody with morals and a desire to try and change things?

Something missing upstairs or an ability to cut through some of the uncomfortable truths that are accepted as normal in the UK today?

He certainly does get a rough ride from opponents, referees and fans at times.

I'm glad I didn't make it, I wouldn't be able to hold my tongue at times.

Look at some of the things he said prior to, and after his move from Liverpool, not the brightest, and grabbing a team mate round the throat whilst representing your country, again not the brightest thing to do, so yes, a little missing upstairs

Give the lad a break for goodness sake. These things happen. He's been brilliant to watch so far this season. Obviously we don't know the exact circumstances of the incident but regardless of that I would have expected Southgate to have resolved it without the need to send him home.

"Sterling will come back into contention for England's match at Kosovo on Monday".

A bit harsh. Dropping him for the first game and then considering him the day after the final game.

Seems a bit OTT from Southgate, they've already kissed and made up. It's not an office job, stuff like this happens all the time.

Good to see the knives out so quick for England's best player.

I bet he wouldn't have been dropped had it been vs better opposition. Does seem a strange one.

Every time I think Sterling maybe worth me not thinking he is up himself, something happens to make me spend another couple of months with him on the naughty step again. He is still in my fantasy footie side as I have to accept I have no moral compass at times and this manager will not be dropping him to the bench!! ;)

Not like England fans to jump on our best player is it.

I mean we never did it to Rooney, Gazza, Beckham, Lampard and Gerrard, Rio, Terry, Cole...

I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering what this long list of things that Sterling has done actually is. I can't really think of anything prior to this (plenty of players have said that they want to leave to win trophies, I'm not sure why Sterling is singled out for this given he's gone on to win multiple trophies).

Not much of an incident really, bit of a "to do" with a team mate. I'm guessing that the thing Southgate didn't like was that it was a "carry-over" from a club game rather than something that arose in England training.
Southgate's reaction seems about right- he's got to do something to stop club-feud hangovers affecting the national team but without blowing up a little to-do (assuming the two have kissed and made up).
Out for one game to mull it over but not sent home seems reasonable all round to me.

You having a laugh??

He lives in an expensive house
He once wore a Primark outfit
He drove a dirty car worth £50,000
He once went to Greggs
He shopped at Poundworld
He bought his mum a house

There is plenty more

If England didn't need just a single point from the two remaining games to qualify he wouldn't have been dropped, this just makes Southgate look good.

Sterling added that he and Gomez "are good" and "both understand it was a 5-10 second thing it's done we move forward and not make this bigger than it is. Let's focus on our game on Thursday."

Much ado about nothing. But still, let's all cry about it and make loud noises about LETTING HIS COUNTRY DOWN.

Gomez has scratch on face as a result of this incident, might explain why Southgate dealt with it the way he has. Source is Mr Joyce, reliable journo

The "uncomfortable truth" in this case was that Man City lost to Liverpool on Sunday. A truth accepted in the UK which there is no point trying to overturn.

Shouldn't have tried to push him over a hoarding then should he.

I suspect he's had a few ' breaks' in his career which have generally gone his way. Knowing how to lose seems anathema to some footballers.

Gomez should be the last one to try to push someone into the hoarding on purpose, as he suffered an injury at the Turf which was purely accidental.

The ill feeling in the match was not helped by some weak refereeing and Liverpool being allowed to get away with some hefty challenges when City had a player yellow carded. Very much a homer ref at Anfield.

I'd say all top level sports players will have a built in hatred of losing. Can't imagine the likes of Tiger Woods or Cristiano Ronaldo being much fun to be around after they've lost. Has to be a factor in why they're so successful, compared to performers who might have similar levels of ability but not the same drive to succeed.
