I was 5 bud and had to wait another 9 years before my first game (Derby County FA Cup 3rd round). They went on to win the second division championship that season under Cloughie and the rest is history. I think we won 3-1 that day. I was stood in the Bee Hole looking across at the still being built CFS. Now it is the oldest part of the ground - it seems strange when I think about it.

I was 6 and my first game would be ten months later, September 1960.
My big brother took me to watch the reigning champions beat Bolton 2-0 (I think) for my 7th birthday.
My abiding memory is of getting whacked with one of those old wooden rattles. Ouch!

Remember it as though it was yesterday................. dark, muddy pitch, 5-0 half time. Stood right at the back of the Longside as usual. A happy lad who walked home, not able to afford a pint, but it didn't matter, we had the empty matchbox to kick all the way home.

Was that the game where Pointer crashed into the wall of the old cricket field stand? I seem to remember he did it in that season. We went nap that day for sure.
It was cracking stuff and even better in the 61-62 season until we ran out of steam in March 62

8 nil for us oldies I remember a card or poem at that time that went `Remember Nots Forrest when you nearly got nine they were the team that got there last time ' I think that was due to the fact that they had got to Wembley Cup final the year before. Can't remember much more but that stays with me. UYC

Heh Bosscat. I lived in Long Preston (on Greengates Terrace?) in the early sixties and went to the junior school there for about a year. I moved away when I was six years old. Maybe our paths crossed. Ps I have just turned 60 so am about your age.

You might have been mates. I only found out a few months ago that me and Steve1956 were mates over 40 years ago. Stranger things and all that.

You are about my age m8, I am 61 (62 next May) so you would have probably been in the same year as Barry Gibson, David Slater, Edwin Proctor & Paul Coates mate, in the year just below me, I was at LP School from 63 to 69...

Miss Lord was the Head Mistrees (a right old battleaxe) in the early part of that but maybe you were there under Mr Harris????

Bloody hell you must have been Neighbours with Paul Coates on Greengate Terrace :D

I was there that day. I remember Derby had an aggressive midfielder (Willie Carlin rings a bell) who was niggling us all match. I was stood in the right hand corner of the Cricket Field End and I remember him trying it on with Colin Blant, who was not renowned for his tolerance and finesse TBH, who just kicked him up in the air right in front of us. I laughed my head off and Blanty was an instant hero

Small world indeed Bosscat. I remember all those names and yes Miss Lord was the head and very scary. I eventually went to Settle High School. Live in Clitheroe now.

Blanty was in my sisters year at school and was a complete nutter, but a great defender. Once had Best in his pocket all afternoon (after threatening in the tunnel so legend has it).
