This is the second thread you've started about Leeds artwork recently. Do you need to make a confession?!

I noticed in the local free paper that this has been done somewhere in the city. Not sure exactly where but if I do stumble across it I might struggle not to deface it.

Burnley have done several of this type. The first I remember were during
Jimmy Mullins time as manager but probably even well before that.

Favoured are always very personal and subjective.... mine would have Skippy and the late 70’s players dominant... not because it was a great time for the club... but when I saw them As a kid they were my Gods... and still remain so as someone knocking on 50

Problem is with something like this that more present day players usually tend to get brought in as they are fresher in the memory or at least within the memories of fans.

Realistically you would have to have player like Halley, Boyle and Watson in there along with Harry Potts, Jimmy Adamson and many others that have won major trophies with the club that are all well before I was born. Then you have to have your iconic moment players such as Ian Britton, Gary Parkinson and Wade Elliot and you'd probably not be far off 30 already and wouldn't even scratch on the surface of some of the fan favourites and quality players that we've had that many people would like to see on such a drawing like for example maybe and Eli or Blake or most / all of our current squad.

You'd have to do it similar to what was done for the the player profiles around the outside of the ground - group the players into "eras" and votes on each one

I expect they have one somewhere about how Norman Hunter deliberately ended Frank Casper's career. Probably something they are equally proud of, and certainly sums up the club ethos better than the odd great goal.

Nooooooooooo!!! I have nothing but hatred for them, but having lived here for 17 years....I occasionally stumble across things. I’m at a conference today and whenever I get a minute I try and hunt down Burnley references...

It’s a very good point about the present day players. When we put the player pictures on the exterior walls of the stands we ensured there would be players from different eras.

Interesting to note on the Leeds pic there only appears to be two players from the pre-Revie era, John Charles (in the blue shirt) and the guy in the blue and white striped shirt. Other than those two all the rest are from the last 50 years or so including two managers, Don Revie and Howard Wilkinson and various players from the era like Bremner, Charlton, Hunter, Gray, Reaney, Giles and the rest.

The fact is that they only originated in 1919 and won literally nothing until the latter part of the Revie era. By 1919 Burnley had already won the FA Cup and within two years the Division One Championship title and then a further FA Cup Final 1947 and the Second Division title. A similar photo for us, therefore, would need at least double the number on the Leeds photo. The same 50 probably that are on the perimeter walls of the Turf plus the likes of Brian O'Neil and various others. We have a far deeper history than Leeds United.

Yes, it worked well and gave people of all ages a chance to vote for players from their era.

The beauty of something like this is that it is so subjective and open to personal opinion, do you go for the best players, iconic moments or cult heroes.

With managers it can be a little easier as generally you'd look at those who have had some form of success although again this can come at different levels and in different circumstances such as salary capping or not and transfer / wages money available.
