On tv now that the 350 million on the side of a bus was a lie. Can someone tell me why? We still haven't left yet. Are these people really claiming that this would/could have been introduced the day after the referendum?

If you are watching the same prog as me, it clearly highlights the state of the UK education acquired by ordinary folk!

I always took it as them suggesting - not promising. They suggested (let's fund our NHS instead) they could spend that amount of money on the NHS and was worded in a way to hoodwink the voters.

The only reason I voted to leave was because of what was written on the bus!
I feel cheated.

I wasn't bothered about regaining sovereignty, or our courts being supreme.
Nor was I bothered about leaving one of the world's most undemocratic,
bureaucratic and corrupt organisations.

My only reason was that £350m written on that red bus, I am that thick
I couldn't think of any other reason.

Agreed and it can only be judged when we have left and have started to redistribute monies differently. Until now the people whining on about the bus should have their silly statements shot down. Only time will tell!

Absolutely. When you think that the Treasury issued all sorts of (false) doom and gloom predictions with the full authority of the Civil Service behind them, and the Leave side had a slogan on the side of a bus that most people never even saw, you have to realise that the Leave side had all the advantages and the Remain side couldn't hope to compete.

Yes. As I understand it the Labour Party are proposing an increase of £80 BILLION in day to day spending and another £180 BILLION in capital spending plus £58 BILLION extra for the WASPI women.

So the Conservative bus should have £318 BILLION on the side.

Is that the same fictional £350million that was also suggested could be spent on schools, flood defenses or the steel industry depending on where you lived and what the illegally harvested and funded data suggested you'd be more likely to vote for?

It's also a BS figure

If the working class have more spending power they are more likely to open the purse strings a little bit.
Which would bring in taxes via Value Added Tax.

Relative to what?
The UK had a gross domestic product (GDP) of $2.8 trillion in 2018 and a population of more than 66 million.
Everything is relative.
I think the payments into the EU are about 0.28 %, of GDP but the value (i.e. economic benefit v cost) is more difficult to calculate.
Scarcely anyone now makes an economic case for leaving the EU. It's all down to "Sovereignty" etc. - for those who consider it important.
Those making the "economic" argument now use terms like "we'll get by". "We survived the war" etc.

That's ok then.
Maybe Labour should promise everybody who votes for them a million pounds then just admit it was a lie the day after they get elected and "move on" too.

Looked at another way it's a bit like having a business that makes £100,000 month and you spend £300 a month leasing a car to help you do your business.
You could tell your shareholders that you can save £300 by not leasing the car anymore, but that assumes that you can cope without it, and I suspect many of your shareholders would be very worried.
Leaving the EU is a massive economic risk with no clear route ahead.

A very clever guy on Politics Live today, pointing out to the ex Tory Chairman that the 50,000 new nurse claim, like the £350m bus figure, was deliberately inflated to start a big public argument, following which everyone has heard the message loud and clear that the Tories are recruiting loads of new nurses (just not 50000). Just like we all now know we send a load of dosh to the EU (just not 350m a week).

It is very clever marketing from the Cummings handbook. Not overly ethical, but not as bad as Labour spending £80bn every year and claiming they have the tax rises to pay for it (they know, and we know, that is cobblers - the run on sterling would ruin that tax take for a start, as would the inflation the spending would cause).

I'd spend it in flood defences. We used to have access to EU grants for that so it makes sense to redirect the money there, doesn't it?

17.4 million people, and I am one of them, voted to Leave purely and simply because of the figure that was written on a red bus.
None of us had any other reason.

Some of you Remainers still haven't thought this through have you?
Life is so s**t for such a large number of people, that voting against the establishment didn't bother us one bit.
The 'haves' just don't like it when the 'have nots' actually do something with their vote.
Voting leave was possibly the wrong thing to do but hell, life couldn't be any sh**ier and there was just a faint chance it might improve.
Austerity aimed mainly at the poor, benefit cuts aimed mainly at the poor, Universal Credit you try living 6 to 13 weeks with no money.
Foodbanks.....need I go on?

Remainers are panicking because their cosy little lives might become a little more like a lot of people who voted Leave.
Who knows they may end up on benefits and need foodbanks.

It's a race to the bottom and a lot of us are already there. Enjoy the journey.

So you want them to factor in a run on sterling into their economic models because you think this might happen ? Have the Conservatives done this ?
As for inflation they have factored this into their models - how do you believe this impacts on their tax receipts ? Or are you thinking they should have factored in a Zimbabwe type level of hyperinflation to go along with the the currency crash ? A real vote winner that one !

That maybe the case TVC15, but millions of working class/unemployed did vote leave with that rationale.
If you are at the bottom and nobody is listening to you or doing anything for you, why not vote for change?
They certainly didn't do it because of a number written on a bus!

I am getting a bit confused as to why people think I am a Tory voter.

If I recall at the last general election Tories, Labour and Lib Dems(?) all promised to respect the result of the EU referendum.
Where I live it alternates between Labour and Lib Dem, how do I vote for change?

The Tories have really excelled themselves in this pre- election period with the amount of mis-truths ,half-truths and downright blatant lies they have propogated. Just watch Piers Morgan and Suzanne Reids demolition of Nicky Morgan concerning the number of 'new' nurses if you want to see five minutes of pure comedy. It really is an exercise in saying the same thing over and over again in a vain attempt to convince yourself that its true. These half - wits are obviously told by the Tory hierarchy not to deviate from the mantra/script even when proven to be lying through their teeth. The truely sad thing about this is not the lies per se, but the disdain they have for the electorate.

Well some of them may have voted leave because they believed the country would be better off financially - it wasn’t just what was said on the bus. A big part of the campaign revolved around the savings that could be gained by leaving.
It’s far more believable as a reason for voting than your version !

Blaming the countries and their own economic plight on the amount of immigration was another reason people voted leave - another complete load of sh-ite banded about by leavers
