with the shambles that they, and us, are watching at the moment?

They need to need to spend......and on players that are actually good enough to play in the Premier League, and not the lower Championship.....at best.

Yes the board are delighted as the dry powder keeps stacking up. They would be delighted in the championship aswell as it’s their level, even then they will conjure up an excuse or 2 about how we can’t compete and not to spend money.

The fortunate rise of McNeil kept us up last season, so I hope they'll be happy to keep him beyond January.

If they are not happy at present then I don't honestly believe they ever will be. More money than they could ever have dreamed of and it seems no need to part with any of it. It can't get better than that. We appear to have given up trying to compete on the boardroom and it's made its way onto the pitch.

Garlick has stated that our ambition is 17th in the PL. With that ambition, 18th, 19th and 20th come into play. Maybe if we aimed a little higher, we might achieve 17th even if we have a "bad" season.

Why wouldn’t they be? Money in abundance, a manager who will more than likely keep us up. The issue is can they keep the fans happy and keep building a fan base with this dross being served up each week

In answer to the question I'm not sure to be honest. I do think though unless they give SD a much bigger budget, starting in January and Rigg has done his homework we are going to struggle. Surely the Board are aware that it's going to be difficult to maintain our PL status with the majority of championship players.

The board sanctioned significant transfer fees for Vydra (nowhere near the team), Gibson (nowhere near the team) and substantial wages for Drinkwater (probably won't see play for us again). Maybe they aren't the problem.

I don’t think Dyche would get a top 6 job and he wouldn t last 6 matches with the current brand of football or inability to change a gameplan that’s not working. Not convinced the dynamism is there even with better players.

Gibson and vydra are an injury/suspension from starting and Drinkwater was potentially a real coup for the club, Sean didn’t force him to go out clubbing.

I think we'll stay up easily, Man City and Spurs were always going to win, it's the impression of clueless capitulation against the elite sides that is so underwhelming at the moment.

It's not just the board though is it. Last year this club, having made it into Europe, nearly paid actual money for Sam Clucas. He was cr@p then, and he's certainly cr@p now. And now this year I'm hearing names like Ben Pearson being thrown around. I worry that attributes such as athleticism, passing ability and vision aren't actually priorities when it comes to signing central midfielders.

Facts. It's not about the numbers, it's about who we actually bring in. They don't sign players unless Dyche tells them to, Vydra especially is on him and the recruitment team.

It's just managing expectations. With exception of maybe 6 teams anyone can find themselves in a relegation scrap.

Watford or West Ham might have said start of the season 'Our ambition is for a top 8 finish and a good cup run'. We could set ourselves the same targets, it wouldn't stop 18th-20th coming into play.

Tarks will be looking for that move, and he’s limited himself geographically. Mee has been found out recently, his lack of technical ability has always been masked by the shape of the team, that gets pulled out and Mee is exposed. He kicked the ball into his own head which led to a goal last week!

I’d want Dyche to go, he deserves a chance before he gets labelled the new fat Sam

There's only people who support us who doesn't think he already is, and quite a few of our fans think it too.

If he goes on to have a career like Sam, I think Mr Dyche would be relatively happy.
If he does with us what Sam did with Bolton and Blackburn I think most if not all would be absolutely delighted.

If and when it happens it won't be to Arsenal or anyone like them. He has no pedigree whatsoever with regard to managing at the highest level and dealing with millionaire Prima Donnas. His style of football, whether tailored to our squad or not, is liked by hardly anyone. And he hasn't a clue how to play in Europe, yet. He needs some success at a big-ish club before any of the big guns come calling. And he needs to know how to handle European competitions. Gladly, despite his shortcomings, we are stuck with him for a while yet I think, and that is a good thing for us.

Except football is about what happens on the field, not a happy bank balance. Some people seem to think 'oh, we have plenty of cash' so that's okay. It simply isn't, if that cash isn't being invested to a degree in the playing staff what exactly is the point? Are we (or they) running a football club or a bank?

But we cant go throwing 300m at it or we could end up like ( insert name here )

So if we keep making lots of profits year on year, least if we go down we should be able to keep season ticket prices frozen and not have to sell to buy for a season or 2.

We dont want to become the next Bury or Bolton do we.

As far as we know (and keep getting told) the club have ring-fenced themselves with regard to relegation with clauses in players contracts, so relegation should not really be a major issue financially, that and the fact that we don't pay big wages anyway (although that is going to have to change if we are going to stay in the top flight). We cannot hope to survive too long if we keep paying Championship wages. I'd be the first to criticise players stupid wages and I applaud our board for refusing to pay them, but only up to a point. There comes a time when you have to either accept that you are at the wrong level or join the party (as much as it may gall). Burnley football club are going to have to radically change they way they do things if they want any longevity at all in the PL. Personally if they keep serving up the stuff they are then we have to conclude that maybe we are out of our depth or that a little more money needs to be risked on the playing side.

I have no doubt that we will survive again this season but what happens if we lose a couple of players in the Summer? I don't think we could even replace like for like without spending a lot more than we currently are. Where would we find, for instance, a Tarkowski or a Pope (if either or both were to leave) without spending stupid money on fees and wages? Burnley football club are going to have to start living in the modern day or we will wind up being just a fairly well-off Championship club. Not that that would be a disaster in my eyes, the football might be a tad more enjoyable. But if the investment started sooner rather than later then players like Tarks and Pope might think twice about leaving anyway.

All this is of course just conjecture but I do get a little tired of people saying 'but look how well off we are' whilst watching, largely, shite on the pitch. The irony is, I believe, that we are only really a couple of players short of being a pretty decent PL outfit.

We are told a lot of things, doesnt mean they are right or true.

Whatever point people make regards the profits not being used to strengthen the squad, they'll be an answer

Wages
Fees
Dont want to live up north
Agents
Collapsed at the 11th hour
Bad apple
Reached our ceiling
Squad harmony in jeopardy

And when theres extreme fans that think investing the 25m+ we make/made profit really means 250m and putting the club at long term risk, and will support the method.
Some folk struggle to grasp the "middle ground concept", so can be used to form the reply "we are doing it yhe right way, and the fans I speak to comment and support thst"

*People who dont want to answer difficult questions, will surround themselves with a lot of nodding dogs

* we will see if the new, care fully hand selected supporters group can get some answers, or whether it's another tow the party line group there for the free sandwiches and brews.

Good points and the excuses above HAVE all been used before. The thing is I think we all (or at least most of us) realise we aren't City or Chelsea and we can't go throwing money around like there is no tomorrow but I think many of us realise that the club IS making good money and it certainly isn't being spent very much on squad investment. Sure Barnfield cost a lot but £10m in the context of PL payments is not exactly a kings ransom. The new corner stands have cost money (actually I don't know exactly how much) but I'm sure that the cost could have been held down a lot by re-vamping existing areas (let's face it we rarely need the space we've got in the home sections). The single most important area of investment for any club (or at least one that is financially solvent) should be on the team, otherwise what is the point of it all? Who wants to watch lower league or rubbish football even in a comfortable state-of-the-art ground? I'd sooner watch us winning from the cold comfort of the old Longside.

I remember having this discussion a few weeks ago, but forget who it was with.

They were saying because we've not had any bad injuries they were a waste of money. They didn't initially get that you can only say that after the event. It's like only having 11 players in your squad and not getting a single injury and claiming it was a sensible thing to do.

Reported as near 10m for both.
We HAD to do them though, it wasnt voluntary and we were well behind the deadline, but that's due to unforeseen circumstances so not the clubs fault for waiting to start the work.

If you're wanting upgrades elsewhere purely for fan comfort/experience you'll be waiting a long time.

That's at the bottom of any list.
Although I'm happy with that, as it means we can spend more in the needed areas on the field.
