I've an old picture of Unsworth Colliery Acc in 1941 featuring amongst others Harry Potts.
Were players back then allowed to play for other teams as the league was suspended for the war?
Or can anyone shed any light on this?

That's an intersesting one. Harry became a professional at the Turf in 1937 but was unable to make the breakthrough into Second Division football before War broke out in 1939. He actually made his league debut for us on the opening day of the 1946/47 season. So clearly permission must have been given by the Club for Potts to play for the above team during the War period.

Lots of professional players played for other teams during the second world war, appearing as guests. Only friendly matches or representative teams I think. Could depend on whereabouts in the country they were stationed in the forces.

Suggestion of the club having to give permission?
Players played all over during the war as guest players so Harry and others could have popped up playing all over the place.
There’s no mistaking him on the picture.
