58% Pass Success

Most Championship clubs average a higher % than that. The top clubs get over 70%.
Why can't we just pass the feckin ball properly. Gone are the days of "Not enough money" - look at Sheffield United. They don't have the millions upon millions, yet they have signed players who can pass a football from A to B, and are in the top 10.
He's done a great job in keeping us up - by sitting in a bunker with rifles in our hands, but we have scored some quality goals by passing the bloody thing and after several years he should have spotted some talent and got us playing better football.
Rant over.

It's because we play long percentage balls. We could've dicked about with it at the back to massage that stat If you'd have liked?
Not good enough on the ball today but Everton are a very good team. Defended admirably but just not enough in the tank.

Whatever the pass rate was Everton were never going to win that game until Dwight gets caught out. Brilliant defensive performance against a team with a new manager, hence different tactics. They looked like they were never going to score and nil nil would have been a good and fair result. All this is irrespective of the doom mongers on here....

No.
No it isn't.
Just so you know - long balls aren't classed as passing. We've had 70%+ a few times this season and all we did was pass it long so it's most certainly not that.

Everton were crap today - to quote my Everton mate who was at the game "shocking game, two very poor teams, no entertainment at all"

Teams don't pass the ball to each other to make their stats look good. They do it because that's how you're supposed to play the game of football

I watched the game and there were a couple of Evertonians watching with us. At the end of the game one said : "that was a f.ckin awful game, we were rubbish but you (Burnley) were f.ckin awful, how can you watch that every week?" I have to agree with him, our style of football over the last few games has been garbage, we can't pass to each other, our midfield is absolutely clueless, Westwood and Cork are not good enough for the PL, McNeil needs a rest, our forwards get no service whatsoever: sorry but we are very, very poor at the moment.

Some people won't like this, but we are still a Championship club in terms of quality - Leeds and West Brom ARE better than us. They would beat us if it was a Premier League game. It's a bit embarrassing.
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying he hasn't done a brilliant job for us. He has! And we have made a lot of money by staying in the Prem. But improving a Premier League side is beyond him. He's had more than enough time to do it.
And it's not about losing. I can take losing away to Everton. It's our poor performance - again.

Just watched Knobenders score a great footballing goal against Leeds. They passed the ball from their own box through midfield to their strikers to score a fabulous goal. Every pass on the deck, passing into space for a player to run on to, simple free flowing football with an end product. Why can't we do that?

Pass rate is unimportant, it is the passes which open up defences which matter.

I have yet to see a Championship team play as well as we did at Brentford when we won the title....so frankly what Preston (a team never to grace the prem) do I really couldn’t give a to55

Night and day compared to our match.

Arsenal used to be supreme masters of pass rate but that meant nothing.
If there was a simple relationship between pass rate and goals scored and conceded we would be third tier.

Do you think our team is better now than the one tgat best Brentford.? Big difference in the leagues but I dont think we are any better. We have to be thankful for a good defence. They have an off day and we get battered.
Midfield is practically non existent.

Sounds a bit like the goal we scored against Brighton earlier this season (which was a bit of a surprise as we struggled to string two passes together for a lot of that game).

And that’s what’s most galling. We can play good, pass and move football, but most of the time we elect not to.

Indeed. You can line this team up man for man with the team that went to Everton 2 years ago and won with a 23 man goal, and technically it is not materially worse - or at least, needn't be. But we have become increasingly on a very rigid, basic 442 and whilst results this calendar year have been good, and we've gone from a disastrous league position to a very good one, its increasingly apparent that that set up often comes at the expense of any attempt to play a more refined style of football.

And I can totally understand that. My point is more about us not improving our style after a few years.
Sure, staying up is what matters. Of course it is. It brings in a lot of money and it also helps the town. But we should be slowly improving our play on the pitch and, well... we aren't.

I agree we've only had one comfortable PL season in the 7th placed campaign, and we're just 6 points off the dropzone, with some tricky fixtures to come in the next month or two,i hope the squad isn't as complacent as some of the posters on here,we could quite easily be dragged into a survival battle.

Everton were there for the taking today. Very cautious and nervy until they realised we.had.little.intention of trying to score a.goal. Just no initiative from us and a very relieved support celebrating at the end. Everton may become a good side but currently are treading just as much water as us.1

Don't remember much chat about '% pass rate last week and had we ' stolen it' today the mood would be totally different . Dyche is still able to motivate the side in the games which really matter and he is still working on a relative 'shoe string'. Today I was wondering just how much more the Everton team was in comparison to ours; starting with the the keepers the difference was £29m,so I decided to leave it there.

That must be the reason we can't string two passes together, that's the most concerning for me. I feel we are going backwards, are we better that the side that finished 7th? No. Are we buying better players? No.
Are we playing better football? No. The transfer excuses have already come out, yet Sheffield United, a newly promoted side have said they will be strengthening.. frustrating and worrying times
