The last signing we made who plays in the first team. We signed him in 2017.

Yep. Embarrassing that even after last year’s near miss the closest thing to a first teamer we signed in summer was Erik Pieters.

Vydra would have made a difference in that game today, playing behind and just off Chris Wood, I suspect he may leave in January as he never gets used which has been a total shame since he arrived.

If we could deliver more chances his way he'd score more. Problem is he otherwise doesn't contribute enough. Much like the rest of our players he's on the verge of not being good enough.

His overall play with the ball is very poor, for a big man struggles to hold it up, bad passing and lack of creativity. He can bury one in 3 chances but a team that creates very little can't often afford to carry him when everyone else plays like crap.

I hope we keep him. If we go down, he'd be class in the Championship.

Has his faults, but still our best chance of a goal. He needs better service, McNeil aside we barely ever get the ball into dangerous areas. As for being our last signing of first XI quality - agree, and that is our downfall.

His only strength is headers from crosses. Never wins headers from goal kicks and general play is shockingly bad at times. Has missed the most big chances in the prem in 2019 apparently

Woods goal should be enough for at least a point at home to a side near the foot of the table.
For someone to criticise Wood on this post is amazing as after the likes of Vardy and Rashford ( players worth in excess of 80 million) he is as good as any on the Premier

Because I watched the pure garbage that Barns offered us in the first half and it couldn’t have been any worse.

Plain to see that a player dropping in the gap between attack and midfield would have kept us the ball more and offered more options than hoofing it forward. He also offers more pace than both Barnes and Wood. Anything else you’d like ,me to add?

The likes of

Lennon
Peiters
Bardsley
Gibson
Jay
Vydra
Amongst other brought in to make the numbers up

Failure to improve or freshen up your first 11 for 4 windows rarely ends well.
Improve your first 11, your squad automatically improves, keep buying back up players, it is very hard to progress

We lack competition for places, and the undroppable Mee and Cork are signs if that.
Players are assured of playing regardless of form or performance

Huh?

Taylor must have got at least 6 or 7 decent crosses into the box 2nd half?

Vydra, to be fair, isn't available at the moment but, having said that, he doesn't get a game when he is. Some decent cameos but nothing much from him to suggest that he should be starting.

Never said starting, but having watched that today you calso can’t suggest that a change of personnel and tactics in the starting 11 wouldn’t go amiss

Re the opening post, it’s a huge issue. We’ve tried some of the more recent signings, but always revert back to those tried and tested faces. We don’t even rotate the squad during periods of fixture congestion and I don’t think you can over estimate the importance of freshness.

With every passing window the surgery required becomes more major.

True that’s exactly what he is an excellent champ player ( like most of our hard working but aging moderate ability team ) His control is woeful and struggles to hold it up properly , he’s ok though and should always start imo

He has started ten more games than Jay as.
Everything rosy on the transfer front.

I'm not just talking about today's game, where Taylor did have a decent spell in the second half, but in general we don't get enough quality service into the front two.

Stop moving the goalposts, it’s making you look silly. You said that Wood was the last signing we made who plays in our first team. Someone has just pointed out that this is incorrect as both Rodriguez and Pieters play in our first team. Nobody said that everything was rosy on the transfer front.

Plenty on here were saying we’d had a great summer transfer window. Where have they all gone ? Strange.
Please don’t respond with “hindsight”. We signed a player past his best, another who was never good enough for the Premier League who is an utterly shocking footballer (I believe Rigg was instrumental in signing him previously for another club - might have had something to do with it).
Finally we sign a very expensive (I assume) injured player who was clearly on a downwards career trajectory.
Far too many old “one last big contract” signings over the last 3 or 4 years. Coming home to roost now, chaps.

Absolutely, and this alarms me. The squad is generally ageing and little resale value aside from the obvious players. It's surprising we have gone down the road of last big pay day contracts for over the hill players. We have to bring in some younger blood whether we stay up this season or not. There seems to be a real lack of transfer policy and direction over the last couple of years.

Maybe he’s slightly quicker than Wood but I doubt there’s enough in it to make a noticeable difference to our play. Only the really rapid strikers like Vardy seem to gain a significant advantage from their pace. In any case Vydra seems like more the kind of player who drops into the hole to receive the ball with his back to goal, and it’s fair to say that Rodriguez is better in that department.
