23 yrs old pace to burn and a decent goal tally in Div 1, 17.I would definately buy him.Should be affordable even for our cash strapped Chairman

Clever player, good on the ball and an instinctive confidence in front of goal. He could have embarrassed us if he’d got on the end of a couple of crosses, just as Jay and Chris could have got on the end of a couple of crosses. It could have been another 4 or 5 goals quite easily.

If we sign him would he bring his own cushion ?

After seeing that we were “linked” with him I was looking forward to seeing what he was all about.

Was more impressed with Maddison & Jade-Jones tbh.

Due to our inaction in the last few transfer windows we need players who are first team ready. I'm all for signing younger players but last thing we need is another player who will never be given a chance, a la Wells/Vydra.

Young. Little chance I would have thought.

Very very raw, it’s a maybe from me. Possibly a bit like Andre Grey, will always look a little uncomfortable with the ball at his feet but he will score goals

Occasionally we should take a gamble because if he realises his potential, then in 18 months his price tag will soar. Thinking of James Bowen. A club like ours can probably only make such a gamble perhaps once every couple of years. I didn’t watch him closely enough to form an opinion so I defer to those that might have put him under the microscope, but I liked what I saw of him when he had the ball and when he was in and around it, in the penalty area.

11m is a lot for a league one player.
Took his goal well though.

Seen a bit of praise for Maddison on twitter saying he had the better of Hendrick but I can't say I noticed either in the game. Lennon was the stand out.

Must say I thought Maddison looked good, but did look to run out of steam at about 80 mins , he had some clever flicks , but im sure that can be trained out of him , he went box to box and tackled inctercepted and could put balls in. he has scored 8 goals so far this season which for a midfield player seems good.

You’re right, because we didn’t go for Bowen sooner and he’s turned out to be super, smashing, great.

I wasn’t impressed at all with him. He had 2 glaring chances in the first half to get on the end of crosses but instead either fell over the ball or put wide. Those efforts should have at least been on target.

If defenders in league one are as bad as Peterborough‘s then no wonder he’s scored 17. His next step is at championship level not premier league.

I learned after about 30 minutes in that we were looking at him, so I kept an eye on him.
His movement off the ball was wasn't too bad and his positional sense in the box was
good.

However, he did seem to have a bit of a lazy streak, but maybe this was as a result of
the lack of service he received.

I too was more impressed with Madison to be honest.

11 million they want from commentary yesterday not really a gamble

Posh may say they want £11m but I suspect would sell for less if they got an offer.

How do we manage a signing from the third tier though? He's unlikely to be good enough to play in the first team and he can't just be in the u-23's. Loan to a championship club so he's stepped up one level before playing him in the PL?

In theory we signed heaton from the third tier. He turned out not too bad.

But they had championship experience.

Toney had 2/3 years at Newcastle but didn't make the grade there.

True but I'm guessing the game is littered with players taking a step back then moving forward again.

Doug Collins came from the 3rd tier. And after we'd beaten Grimsby in the FA Cup. He'd had a very good game against us, too.

A yes from me..has the physical presence that we could utilise and is a lot quicker than our other forwards. Certainly a different option. A good punt at a player to develop i think.

As for Maddison...he was poor. Busy yes but his decision making and passing were dreadful yesterday. So much so the Peterborough fans were getting on his case. Could hear them quite clearly getting annoyed at him.

We need midfielders in the starting eleven, not young strikers to warm the bench.

I thought Maddison clearly had technical ability way above the rest of his side, but he appeared incredibly greedy to me. Darren Ferguson in front of me was pulling his hair out at times with his decision making on the ball.

Regarding Toney, he looked like a good championship player to me. Don't think he'd be ready to face the likes of Tarkowski every week.

Toney; no. Championship player at best.

Maddison; no. There's a reason why he's played for Peterboro in League One for so long...all hustle and bustle with a real lack of quality.

Can't say I was impressed with what I saw from Toney, with everything I have heard about him and the figures flying around. I was interested in keeping an eye on him, and he looks over rated (but it's always been easy for strikers to score a few in League One)
If anybody pays anywhere near £10 million for him, they are bonkers. Then again £12mil was once spent on Ross McCormack.

That Jade Jones lad looked lively and promising though, can see why Posh have told Spurs they want £10 million for him.
https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/11/21/r ... -jade-jon/

Toney though, no where near a £10 million player.. I'd say £3 million, and even that is a slight risk, but maybe I have not quite adapted to these modern day transfer fees that are thrown around :D

I saw the last half hour on the tele and a full game vs Accy Stanley at London Road and maybe Maddison is worth a punt.
He was busy and found space, didn't think he ran out of steam at all though we need to remember that these cup ties are not full on.

Also he is out of contract and plays in a position that we need back up for.

This. I agree. Quite bemused by some on here saying he was their best player. Certainly confident and a player who knows he is important to his team but he was very greedy, tried way too many things that just didn't come off and was wasteful in posession. His manager was screaming at him and being sat near the away fans at that end of the BL i could quite clearly hear what his fans were saying about him too and they were not pleased with his performance. Maybe his position at the head of their diamond meant he saw a lot of the ball but i don't agree he was anything special. Not on yesterdays performance anyway.

He isn't better than Wood, Jay or Vydra and Peterboro are said to want 11 million

Therefore for me sign him, we might just finish some of the whoppers off if we pay another 11m for a forward who doesn't get much chance
