Time to step up to first team coach
His attack based pass and move football with the U18 at Mansfied was a joy to watch
The players played with a freedom and skill level that bodes well for the future.

I thought we already had a first team coach.

My mate manages his daughters U13 team and they are scoring 8 or 9 per game and are absolutely fearless. They also haven't conceded a goal for 14 months so he could probably do both Tony Loughlan and Billy Mercer's jobs on his own and do it better

Well I suppose it is a step up from starting threads suggesting we sign random players

This wouldn't go down well with some as they disliked him as a player for the club. Only player to score a Burnley hat trick and be booed by some when he was subbed.

The OP is either a young lad or he's found Peter Green's old secret stash.

. seems to recall that being in a 5-0 victory against Barnet?

. likes Tony Philiskirk and enjoys speaking to him when he sees him.

Is it purely this forum where you talk in 3rd person or everyday life? Just a question

So everyone is happy with the present performances and the England style pratting about with our back four passing from one to the other then back to Nick to wellie it in hope more than expectation?
I am pointing out that our present tactics for our First team are crap.We need a change of method as clearly we arent in a position to sign new players,so must work within our present resources.A fresh eye on our coaching is not a bad thing, regardless of anyones opinion on this

Issue being you have picked someone after watching our under 18s play well against Mansfield under 18s. You have no knowledge of Mansfield's u18s their ability or level but due to us playing well against them he is a candidate.

I think half of the Longside had 5-0 that day against Barnet, it was 28/1 at Coral's . I remember us hitting the
bar in the last minute and loads around me cheered when it bounced safely away !! Not me though, although i
admit to a fist pump and a big grin :-) :-)

Re negativity. The purpose of my short post is to suggest the way forward
No doubt all coaches are consulted by Sean te tactics its just a shame the pass and move approach on view last night and v Peterborough isnt used more widely by our first team .Before someone pans the idea look at the top three teams in the Premier league and their methods
We have good players they just need reminding of other ways to win.Sean is a great advocate of finding ways to win, perhaps pass and move actually is one of them

Re: Tony Philiskirk

by sound and vision
I watched the game last night and I thought that in the first half especially, but also in the 2nd to a lesser extent as we seemed to run out of steam in midfield, that we were trying to play just like the first team does. There were elements of play that were just like the first team at it's best. Don't forget that Mansfield were the lowest ranked team left in the cup, much lower ranked than us and not some premier league U18's. We might find our level in the next round - they will certainly have to up their game to progress but i guess they will know that.

I don't suppose it has occurred to you in your self appointed role as keyboard manager that it is easier to play pass and move football vs a third tier side than one of the Champions League semi finalists ?

Pass and move football was pioneered by ex Claret Jimmy Hogan in the 30s.Adopted by provessive coaches everywhere since.Inevitable that people question ability of our players
Its about quick movement of the ball. All our players are capable of that.

I'm capable of it against a bunch of 8 year olds....... I think I'd struggle against a bunch of semi pro's.....

Youth team football isn't all about results, it's about development of players. 1st team football isn't all about development of players, it's about results.

See why it's not as straight line black and white as you paint it?

In the 1930s Burnley were not competing against a collection of the world's best footballers.

We had more of the possession vs Spurs away and got battered because they have got Son Kane etc we have got Jay Rodriguez and Chris Wood.

They are capable... or at least they are when we can get the ball off the opposition.

I can see that you'd be capable of the passing, I'm not so convinced by the moving.

Aggi - I@m nearly old enough to qualify for walking football. I@m serious when I say I expect to be the first £1m walking footballer, with my 30 odd years of experience at it.

. correct 5-0 v Barnet on Easter Monday, it snowed in the 2nd half. Game was also notable for Ted McMinn raising the corner flag to the CFS and roared Come On. The incident happened after the TIn Man had taken the **** out of the full back, won the corner and full back threw the corner flag at him. Those were the days.
