Alan Beecroft - RIP

Post by ClaretTony » Fri Jan 17, 2020 5:38 pm

I'm struggling to find the words right now but Alan Beecroft, a very special Burnley supporter who was always there to help fellow Clarets, has passed away today after a long, brave fight against Motor Neurone Disease.

My thoughts with Georgina, Simon, Francesca and his grandkids Layton, Aiden & Skye.

Bless you Alan, you were one of the best.

Sad sad news. I knew Alan for over 40 years. He worked with my step father at British Gas for many years. A big character, laugh a minute, practical jokes, pranks. Any mischief he was never far away. He was also a dedicated Claret and was heavily involved with Colne Clarets for years.

Sincere condolences to his family at this terribly sad time. RIP Beaky. Top bloke. Top Claret.

Absolutely devastated to hear this news. Alan was a very close friend of my dad; we went to Wembley together in '88 and he took me to my first away game the next season. Between that and him starting Colne Clarets he took me all over the country to away games and then with CC.

He always helped us out with tickets, even when we weren't going on the coaches.

He was always great entertainment, even when, or maybe because the football was usually crap.

RIP

I remember going to Wembley on a coach with Alan which I think was British Gas social club to watch England v Holland pre 1982 World Cup. Alan was resplendent in a tshirt emblazoned 'Northern Muff Divers Association ' on the front and "No muff to wide we dive at 5' on the back.

Remember Alan from the old Colne Clarers days, a real character and a man you got used to seeing and/or hearing at away games.

Thoughts are very much with his friends and family at this sad time.

RIP Alan, you'll always be a claret!

Very sad to read this news. Had some amazing away days with Colne Clarets, and he would always have a word for everybody. Helped many a Burnley fan over the year, and was an integral part of getting the supporters voice heard over the years.

RIP Beeky.

RIP Captain Beeky. We had some good times on the Colne Clarets coaches and even before that on the old Viscount Central coaches. Known him for years. Remember going to his house on Skipton Road to collect tickets for the (almost) ill-fated special train to Wembley in 94. Top bloke

While people talk about legends in football, Alan was a legend in supporting BFC. I worked at B Gas with him for a number of years. We both had a common interest In bird watching and the Clarets. After I left, he went onto work for Travel Agents around Europe and beyond checking their apartments for compliance to gas safety. When we used to bump into each other, it was him telling me of the exotic species of birds he'd seen while in the areas he'd been working. We had also been on committees together, related to BFC.
RIP Alan an absolutely dedicated Claret

You may know my step father Terry Spedding who worked with Alan at British Gas. I got to know a number of the characters who worked there over the years. None finer than Beaky.

Alan was one of those 'faces' you know, just from going away every week. Hugely recognisable, especially with his signature hat! Must have said 'hello' to him 100 times before I actually got to know him a little bit. Spent some time with him on a pre-season tour in Scotland once, and as many have said, was genuinely a very nice man. Thoughts go out to all his family.

Very sad news, Alan was a top top bloke. Got to know him quite well during the lean years of the 80’s & 90’s traveling around watching the Clarets. Always positive, always a smile, always ready with a joke or funny story. RIP to a claret supporting legend.

Condolences to all his family and friends.
