Anyway - the next four league games

Arsenal (H)
Southampton (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Newcastle (A)

With a bit of luck we'll be pretty much safe (within a couple of points at least).

Five or six points from those, I'd say. Which I'd be happy with.

5 from 4 would keep us moving forward.

If we can maintain our best form 4-6 pts minimum, with the rub of the green 8-9 pts is possible, victory over Arsenal would be sweet, but it's the other 3 fixtures that will define how nervy our end to the season will ultimately be.

Two wins would be great. Then we can ease off and aim to stay away from the dangers of Europe.

Our Europa league hangover was the reason why we had such a poor Christmas 19.

I suggest we be extremely negative and go with 3-4 points. It's the best way to be.

If we average 1 point a game until the end of the season we finish on 44 points. The "big" 6 have lost 14 more games and drawn 12 more than this time last year so that's 54 more points floating around the table i think 18th place will have 40 points this year

I fancy us against Arsenal and if we can beat them then we can take on the 3 games after that knowing another win puts us virtually safe.

Southampton looks a tough one given their form, but the other two are certainly winnable.

I've given up trying to predict our results this season. We seem to win a few on the bounce, then go and lose a few. I wouldn't be surprised if we took 8 or 9 points, but equally I wouldn't be surprised to see us struggle.

And some of the main men dont want that headache again.

Let's get 5 points, secure safety then have a rotten run ending in staying up at Norwich away , least itll add some excitement to the season.

5 points would be very decent. It'd take us to 35 then probably only 3/4 more points for safety. 6-7 would be outstanding & just about seal another Prem season.
A win v Arsenal for starters would be heart-lifting on a par with the win at OT- given the rough deals we've had against them in the last decade.

It's not as bad as that. The top 6 might be a fairer comparison, and the top 6 have 274 points now compared with 306 then. Only 32 point difference, and 12 of those have gone to the bottom two clubs - last year Fulham and Huddersfield had 28; this year Norwich and Watford have 40. So only 20 points left for the clubs in 7th-18th.

Objectively i bet most football fans would fancy us beating Arsenal at the moment but given our recent history with them I'm not holding my breath!

Well thus far it is a season of records going. Lost to Villa at home-never happens
Beat Utd away-never happens
?beat Arsenal at home-never happens
Not won at N/C since 1976
Nearly always beat Bournemouth and do well against Southampton
So two wins and two losses

The team that played Leicester and City would take all 12 points.
A win and a couple of draws would be a good return.

Would be great if we could break the Gooner hex on us and Bournemouth you would think 3 points then anything from the other 2 is a bonus utc.

4pts would be ok. But the key fixture is the Bournemouth one, we need to avoid defeat on that one.

Difficult if not impossible to predict results in our next four games.
Assuming Dyche picks the same starting eleven against Arsenal then if we perform as
we did against United and Leicester (in the second half) over those games then we should
be able to pick up at least 3/4 points - possibly more.

That should put us in a pretty good position with 10 games to go.
but much depends on how Bournemouth, Watford, West Ham, Villa and Brighton
do in their next four.
However, if we do badly in those games we could find ourselves just a point or two above the drop zone
and back in trouble.

Let's hope we can get a win against Bournemouth and a point at Newcastle.

Interesting stat - if we get two wins from our next three games (certainly not impossible) we will be on 36 points from 27 games, exactly the same as when we finished 7th in 2017/18.

I'm still baffled as to why people are predicting such big points totals to be safe. People talking about 40 points to be safe. That would be a massive increase of points gained for 4 of the bottom 6. It's not going to happen. 36 points and a decent goal difference will be safe this year, again.

Southampton definitely the hardest of those games - anything from there is a bonus. Not sure about Arsenal, they're vulnerable but they do seem to find the quality against us. Bournemouth H should be a win, no two ways about it. Would like to see a result at Newcastle.

Here's why. Last season for example after 24games teams in 18th and 19th had 19 and 17 points . This season teams in those positions have 23 pts. So nearly a point a game and 4 and 6 points better than last year. No one knows how next 14 games will go. But likely to be higher than normal points total for relegated teams. Entirely possible to be relegated with 40 points this season.
Two wins in next four games would put us in a good position.

Agree with this but alas I had Villa at home down as winnable too. ;)

40 points was always the benchmark for safety as far as I know but there are examples of teams being relegated on 40 points. Since the 38 game format there have been 3, Sunderland, Bolton and West Ham (who went down with 42).

I predict we will get 3 points from the next four games. Arsenal have started to play better under Arteta ( not that difficult I know) and Newcastle and Southampton are in the ascendancy. So it’ll either be all three points against Bournemouth or a point a piece against them Geordies and Saints.

Slightly pessimistic predictions...

Arsenal (H) Draw
Southampton (A) Lose
Bournemouth (H) Win
Newcastle (A) Draw

5 pts from that ain't bad
