That is a real shame. He seemed to look the same, no matter how old he got.
Just a minute....he was still at it well onto his 90s and sharp!
Thanks Nicholas.
In my childhood, he was a stooge for Arthur Haynes....in black and white!

Now I made the same mistake. The Worker was Charlie Drake and Mr Pugh (pe-ew) was Henry Magee. I admit to Googling it because I thought exactly this.

Those zombies definitely grab that red head by the boobies!! (More than once!) Crumbs the BBC has had to make some serious changes since that was acceptable on family TV!!
Loved Nicholas Parons back in the day as I believe he realised he was a "figure of fun" and simply milked it. (Beamish has the wrong guy up there, but somehow I suspect he knows that!!

What was the format of sale of the century? I can remember now

but everyone seemed to watch it.
Three contestants. They answered questions to win themselves pounds. The beauty of the programme was that the questions came quickly. You'd have about 15 questions in the same length of time it takes for that Millionaire programme to ask:
For £100, what is the capital of Mali? Is it
a) Waterloo East
b) Bamako
c) Darwen
d) The Democratic Republic of Congo
Then they'd have a break for an "instant sale", where some (then) desirable bit of kit could be bought for, say £20. Like a Rovers season ticket, a soda syphon or a teasmade. The first contestant to buzz would get the thing on offer. There would be 2 of those, and another one in the middle (an "open sale") where all of the contestants could buy something. The cost was knocked off their tally.
At the end, the one with the most money would go on to have a chance to buy one of a number if star prizes if they had enough cash left. A Morris Marina, a speedboat, or some lesser goodies appeared with price tags, and they could buy what they wanted - sometimes more than one prize if they could afford the canteen of cutlery and the holiday in Skegness........
And now, live from Norwich, it's the quiz of the week....................

And why (as with Bullseye for some reason) was it always a speedboat when most of the contestants seems to be from bloody Birmingham?

Yep, not THAT old! I was born in '58 which makes it about right that it's one the very earliest programmes I ever remember watching on tv. (Closely followed by hiding from the Daleks as William Hartnell took on all comers!!)
