A main part of the funniest sitcom that's ever been on British television.
Happy Birthday - from Dave.

Not many sitcoms when you know what's coming... and it's STILL funny!

Yeah it is. Falling through the bar was funny, but imo not as funny as many others.

Currently watching on Gold, on until 8 o’clock. The fact I watch it when it’s on says it all really. Not just David Jason although he is easily the best actor I have ever watched even the way he butters his bread. Could never watch anything else over and over again and not get bored.

It's just one of those things.

Comedy is subjective. But I personally find lots funnier than ofah. I can see why people would enjoy it. I just don’t think I’ve ever creased up at any of it.

I met him once, they were using our work as a location for A Touch of Frost. He came round, chatted to all the staff and signed autographs when they'd finished. He called me a plonker!

Ronnie Barker was the master.
Much of the brilliance of OFAH was down to the writing of John Sullivan, though it was superbly acted by the cast. But for me, the all time comedy genius was Ronnie Barker. Porridge, Open All Hours, 2 Ronnie's and the oft forgotten Clarence. For me he is unsurpassed as a writer, comedy actor and comedian. 4 candles, Mastermind and countless other sketches showcase his mastery. Ably supported by the writer, Gerald Wiley.
Ronnie Barker was the governor.

Used to sit and watch Only fools with my mum and dad as a kid and found it funny. Growing up and rewatching them I got all the jokes that I didn’t at a younger age. Brilliant, brilliant program. So many great moments. Batman and Robin, Chandelier, The Bar. Brilliant.

a great actor but the drivel written and said about only fools is embarrassing.
the ones with lennard pearce were good but the rest is just a humorous soap opera. sentimental mush.
open all hours was far superior but porridge was on another level altogether.
and they are all crap compared to steptoe and son.

I wonder if its possible to both find ofah funny as, but also think the Stewart Lee sketch hilarious as well?
Or can you only acknowledge ofah as one of the funniest shows to the most people ever, OR be a smug, better than thou S Lee fan?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J1J_iHC2Qw
For me the one I could never understand why people found it funny was Fawlty Towers. ofah is classic timeless comedy. Some age well, some don't. But another vote of the Chandelier as better than the bar scene.

Word play & innuendos safe enough for 80s BBC prime time with punch lines that can be seen from a mile away. Then occasionally some one will wear something silly or fall over which has the studio audience wetting themselves.
Suffice to say never liked OFAH, Mrs Browns Boys of the 80s.
Jason a good actor though. Was annoyed they cast him as Rincewind in the Terry Pratchett stuff, too cool. Needed an awkward, gangly Nigel Planer type.
