Better to be a Burnley Supporter

I travelled into Liverpool on Saturday afternoon to go to the theatre. The trains from Warrington were packed to overflowing, the Pubs and Restaurants were heaving with Red shirts and scarves. It was all good natured and typically scouse, but I couldn't help thinking that I'd much rather be a Burnley supporter than one of them. They were facing Southampton , the only possible surprise for them would have been not winning . For us anything can happen. I spent the rest of the day in excited anticipation and nervousness as I usually do. I watched the match on the edge of my seat, disappointed that we hadn't won, pleased that we'd drawn the game and delighted by an outstanding performance. in other words , I believe that being a Claret gave me far more las t weekend from football than many of the red got from their weekend.

Let's get real here. Liverpool are having a phenomenal season, their best in decades, this isn't expected of a Liverpool team normally, for you to say that just sounds bitter and quite jealous.
Their supporters must be absolutely loving it at the moment and good for them.

Yes, good for them but, having said that, I have fabulous memories from the 60s and 70s, heart-breaking semi-final defeats notwithstanding, and a lot of ups and downs afterwards. I love what the club has achieved over the last ten years through honest hard graft on and off the pitch, skill and organisation on it and a wonderful corporate - in the nicest sense of the word - spirit.
Sure, we've started every season recently facing the spectre of relegation but we've always battled through and I think these are our victories, against the odds, defying the reality of today's Premier League football and as we saw on Sunday, occasionally offering the likes of Arsenal a huge "**** you !"

I understand the OPs point to some extent but think that Liverpool this season, not only winning their first title for 30 years but probably rewriting the record books in doing so, are a poor example to use.

Not at all bitter and Jealous Claret and Jew, many of my friends are Liverpool supporters and I'm pleased for them, they deserve to be where they are.
I'm simply reflecting on my feelings around the weekend . I could so easily be a Liverpool , Everton, United or City supporter as living in Warrington for nearly 40 years it would have been so much easier, convenient and less lonely when watching in the pub but its Burnley with all its joys and agonies for me.

That was quite obvious also..

your correct supporting Burnley you don't know what your gonna get...supporting Arsenal you think you know what your gonna get.... And currently with Liverpool you "know" what your gonna get! I like the uncertainty in supporting Burnley Also.

I'm in full agreement with Burtonwood here, as an oldie it's always been the same, infuriating at times, yet absolutely breath taking at other times.

Agree, to go from the Villa performance to that at old Trafford is pretty much what you get with Burnley...no point in even trying to understand it...just smile and wave.

Every Liverpool supporter I talk to (and it’s a lot) absolutely believe it can still all go horribly wrong and are a bundle of nerves every match.

Out of interest Burtonwood where do you watch the Clarets on TV ?? (which pub) in Warry. I,m sure there has been a thread about this before and we could muster a gathering based around WA postcode. Perhaps we could arrange a get-together for Saints away - it can be awfully lonely amongst all these plastic Mancs/Sousers.

I live in the Sankey Area , but usually watch at home. However I’m up for this if you can suggest somewhere that has BT sport.

The reason I asked you where you watch the live games is because I am not a local to Warry & only visit when the Clarets play away (girlfriend lives there). I usually end up in one of the many social clubs which is great for cheap ale but a nightmare for control of the remote - most of the bell-ends in there follow Utd or Liverpool if our game clashes.I know there is other Clarets in the area & would attend if a suitable venue could be found - I am relying on your local knowledge - cheers !!.

The Woodlands on the A 57 in Great Sankey has BT sport.
I can be there to watch the game againts Saints.
if any other Warrington based clarets want to join us please do or if you can suggest somewhere better it would be good to get a few claret shirts together.
I think we've had thisconversation before

I understand the OP point. Following Burnley is about hope not expectation. Being a Claret fan reflects life in that there are occasional highlights but for the most part you hope for the best.

Its definitely better to be a Burnley supporter. But i wouldn't mind giving winning every game a go, perhaps just for a couple of championships, maybe an FA cup or two. I'm not complaining though!

One of us needs to post on the "Lyrics you heard wrong" thread
I thought the second line was "23 23 I say"

I would agree but Liverpool this season is a bad example. I often tell Everton supporting mates that being a Burnley fan is better. Since my first season watching Burnley whoch was the 4th Division title winning team with Jimmy Mullen we have progressed through the leagues, gone up gone down and we are where we are now. In that same time I dont think Everton have won a trophy, not competed bar 1 season under Moyes for a top 4 spot. They have just existed in a league they will never compete for like ourselves. I know which club I would have got most excitement out of watching over the last 25 plus years....and its certainly not Everton.

They won the FA Cup in 1995.

They haven't won the league for 27 years. A whole generation of fans who've never seen them do it. I'd say they're probably enjoying themselves this season.

It's actually 30 years.
