Our new MP

Was speaking in Parliament about the floods in Padiham.

He's getting very good feedback from people about being hard working and has done more in a couple of weeks than that waste of space Cooper did in years.

Burnley might stay Tory for a good while at this rate.

They are all getting their go to speak at the moment. It is normal.

There was a new w anker tory mp who was a Wiltshire Cllr, although he did nowt. His quest is self promotion. Even the tory press labelled him a carpet bagger!

He asked a Q at PMQs last week. Darren Henry. The guy who thinks food banks are indulgement of the poor.

He thanked Johnson for the new hospital that his constituency is evidently getting.

In turn Johnson the reaper thanked him for all the work he did to get it in the first place.

The guy got elected in December! He has done nothing towards anything, other than for himself, ever!

Edited as wrong info posted.

It's great news for the area if we get a good MP, no matter from which party

I like him.

Seems very active.

As for Julie Cooper, pathetic, spineless waste of space.

Whilst no fan of Labour or Mrs Cooper, that is unfair .... she spoke over 200 times in Parliament, submitted many questions, both written and oral, as well as serving on select committees in addition to her constituency work.
As I've said before, I believe the vast majority who stand for elected office, as a Councillor, MP or whatever, do it out of a genuine desire to improve the lot of the people they represent. Now, you can argue against or disagree with their politics, and by christ don't we just, but I think most are sincere. I can think of one or two exceptions, Keith Vaz, for one ....

The last thing she spoke about was the Todmorden curve in a discussion about Colne to Skipton railways.

You should know. You said she only spoke once. Now I couldn't care less about her or indeed Labour, but you really shouldn't be making up lies about her, especially on here. I've seen messageboards closed down when people are libelled.

I read it on here Billy, not made malicious lies up. But you're right I shouldn't post things that might not be true. So I've edited the post.

She spoke 670 times. What other lies about her did you swallow? Will you be telling us she wasnt a Burnley fan aswell? Seen that a few times on here, must be imagining that she sits in Bob Lord block 2.

Anyway, fair play to our new MP so far. I particularly like that he is campaigning for an increased timetable for the train service to Manchester. I'll judge him on his achievements not his party affiliation.

Yes, of course ... she's not daft !
She campaigned for free car parking at hospitals, introducing a " private members " bill, which was eventually " talked out ", but the new Government are promising to do something on this subject, we shall see. She spoke on local pharmacies, a subject on which she has some knowledge, poverty, minimum wage, amongst others, and yes, on Kashmir, which is a " live " issue to many in Burnley's Asian Community ...

A lot of people have described as aloof, or condescending, that's their view. I don't think she was a particularly gifted communicator, although I wouldn't doubt her good intentions ..

I hope this new MP turns out to be a good constituency MP.

It's ok emailing press releases to the local press, but he'll ultimately be judged on his actions and the help he gives to his constituents when they go to him with their problems.

Too many MPs feel that a letter typed on House of Commons notepaper will do the trick when it comes to pacifying those who go to them with their issues, but it doesn't really work like that. Actions speak louder than words. Burnley needs a hardworking MP and I hope he steps up to the mark.

If you check, the figure of 670 is not speaking on the floor of the House, it includes speaking in select committees, her written and oral questions, and comments such as " Will the minister give way ? " ...

Good to see the " Honourable member for quickenthetempo " has withdrawn his previous remark !! ;)

He was out in Padiham giving help on Sunday with the floods.

Someone high up in healthcare in the area said he's doing a lot of work behind the scenes.

As you say proof is in the pudding.

Getting Burnley A&E re-opened is highly unlikely too. As other MP's up and down the country are beating the same drum with their local hospitals.

Just seen him in Padiham with Padiham's County Councillor, with local Police ..... they're visiting local shops and business's to get a better idea on flood damage and what's needed to prevent future occurrences, and also improve measures to combat anti-social behaviour ..

Good to see also that he's already held surgeries in Padiham, Ightenhill and Worsthorne, not just in Burnley Town Centre. An MP's surgery is where Constituents can meet their MP with any problems they feel he can help with, he's holding one tomorrow at St Margaret's Church, Hapton between 12 - 2 pm.

I suspect he knows there is nothing that can be done about the flooding, like in many areas of the country. More a case of just looking like he's seen to be doing something.

I think lots of problems are caused by rainwater trying to discharge into drains that then cannot discharge into swollen rivers. This happens in lots of places and unless high catchment tanks are installed there will always be floods.
