Any news about Socrates and Tony from Accrington?

Has anybody heard any news about the health of our fellow Clarets Socrates and Tony from Accrington (I just can't remember his username)? Socrates posted about a month (?) ago from hospital where the poor lad had been for over three months and I haven't seen Tony posting for some time and I seem to remember he was ill too.

I hope both of them are doing better healthwise.

Socrates on Twitter seems to be recovering well. No info on tybfc Tony Yates.

Both seem to be doing well. Not sure how on earth Socrates pulled through to be honest.

I just happened to have an appointment at Blackburn Hospital on the day Flixton posted about tybfc so I called in to see him. He looked very poorly at the time but Flixton and Leisure have both told me he’s improving.

So good news on both thankfully and I look forward to them both being back to full health.

Morning gents,

Very kind of you to check in. I’m touched.

Recovery is progressing. I’m told it’s moving at a remarkable rate but it still feels very slow to me. I’ve still got an open wound on my stomach, a legacy from all the surgery I had in that first week, which district nurses come and tend to twice a day. I’ve had to learn to walk again, which I’ve pretty much cracked now with the use of a cane, and I’ve all but got use of my right arm back too now.

As Tony said, I really shouldn’t be here. My family were told twice to say their goodbyes to me and doctors still can’t really explain how I pulled through. I’ll have to have more surgery later this year but all told I’m doing well.

Thanks again.

It's great to hear from you Socrates. Bloody hell you've been through it, my wife just asked me to remind her of what exactly you had so I've been looking for the post where you told us all about it. What I can remember is that its truly amazing that you're still here with us, thank goodness for the expert care that you received, our wonderful NHS and their staff. Onwards and upwards my friend. We'll be thinking about you.Best wishes. Joe.

Very kind of you Joe.

Basically my bowel perforated and intestines split - so all the bad stuff that is supposed to stay in there infected all my organs, which shut down. Because of the strain on my body during surgery I had a cardiac arrest and I then subsequently caught sepsis.

All 3 of those things should have killed me individually. Obviously wasn’t my time though, and for that I’m very grateful.

I know you're a determined guy so you'll be pushing that physio. It'll take some time and patience but you'll get there. It doesn't seem that long ago (it's actually about 15 years would you believe) since we were both working on the Luton Shelton fiasco with Cotterill and co :) where have those years gone. Take care and keep us all posted.

Good to hear that you are on the mend. It took me a few weeks to get back to full health, but you'll get there.

Death took a right good swipe at you, Socco; and missed.
I’m hoping he leaves you alone for a good time now.

Socrates, I’ve just told my wife (ex nurse) about your travails and all she could say was WOW! She came back a little later and declared that you must be made of steel. I told her she’s obviously right because you are a Burnley fan!

I don't know Socrates personally, but I always enjoy his intelligent and thought-provoking posts.

Tony I do know, and I won' t forget his kindness back in 2009. Firstly he sorted me out with a ticket for the Reading play off second leg ( one of only two occasions where the club had sold out by the time I applied ), and secondly later that year when I was seriously ill in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. Tony helped to organise Get Well Soon cards from the club, and I got two, one signed by the first team squad, and Owen Coyle, and another from the Youth Development team.

I hope you are both back to full fitness soon

I think you've got the wrong Tony with that one

I agree completely. ty is one of the kindest, most thoughtful people I have met. I long to hear that he is fully recovered.

I'm terribly sorry CT, I thought it was tybfc. Anyway, eleven years late, thanks very much for your kindness.

It was definately ty that got me the Reading ticket, though.

I've always thought that if you've got a problem that you need help with, there are people on this board who are inly too willing to assist.

Thanks for the interest guys and socrates you should be a cat ! I thought that I had been to hell and back but nothing in comparison.

I am feeling much better in myself although the docs continue to want to be in charge.

Tonight is scan time and Saturday at 14:30 is a camera down the throat. Yes another missed game and the 2019/20 season ticket has about three used games on it. Monday afternoon back in to see the consultant so it never stops.

I have filled my time doing charity work at home which relieves the boredom and in answer to the questions above I plan to do horse racing nap leagues for Cheltenham and Aintree permitting on my health and Cheltenham getting rid of inches of rain in a couple of weeks.

The docs have banned me from flying and said that if I travel I must be within one hour of a 24hr A&E hospital so please can we stop winning every week and risk a European tour! Spades it looks as though our planned trip may be delayed unless I get a late clearance on Monday which won't happen.

Bodge I have renewed my membership at the Home of Northern Cricket whilst they knock your dump to bits to make the bar bigger and look forward to renewing acquaintances during the summer.

ty, please just get better. There will be other occasions to make up for non-trip.
