On the bench for Wednesday against City tonight.....got me reminiscing about our first season in the PL....remember thinking "wow" when I first saw him in pre season as I thought he was a massive step up in quality from what we had seen before.....did okay for us but remember him missing a few big chances for us which could have made the difference.
Has he played at the Turf since he left? No meetings with him since stand out in my mind!

He developed into a player who headed well but with us his heading was poor and he missed a few good chances.

he scored against City when we were beaten 1 - 6 at home!
a friend thought he was wasteful with many good chances but I liked him and thought there was always a chance of a goal when he was playing...cost £3m and definitely a ‘step-up’!

He had real class. Great first touch. And decent finish. I think the fletcher from 2009 would still be decent In this side.
Think under Dyche he would be class.

City fans cheered when we scored that goal. I think his goal made it 5-1. After that the rain came down and the crowd was all 'call it off call it off'. I think. Memory isn't what it was.

Decent wherever he’s been - but never been a 20-a-season type striker at any level.

Didn’t he have a screamer disallowed for a very dubious offside at Spurs.
Would have made it 1-1 they then went on to drub us, as I recall.

More hair now than ten years ago.
Including the beard.
Good player but if been better in front of goal could have been a great player.

An injury to Fletcher, whilst away with Scotland, meant he missed about a month? (or maybe a little more) around the time shortly after Coyle jumped ship and that arguably cost us just as much as the losing Judas at the crucial time. He clearly had goals in him and we were definitely in with a chance.

Besides building an extension to the front of his house, has his Hair Surgeon bought a new car as well???

he wasn’t offside and who knows we might have got our 1st away points many games sooner than we did!
we did lose 5 - 0...similar to this season!

I don't recall that, but i'm pretty certain he had a goal disallowed against Arsenal for a debatable offside, which would probably have been the winner, around December time i think when we were still going well at home.

Think that might have been Eagles (or maybe he hit post)
Clarets had 4 consequetive one-all home draws with Villa, Fulham, Arsenal and Bolton (Boxing Day)

His first touch was not so good early on, then he worked on it and it was excellent.
Always seemed to slide in at the far post.

Not a world beater, but thought he was OK for us at the time.

He can’t have been that bad. We went down but still got relatively big money for him before he went on for even bigger money and did well again.

He only missed three games all season and they were all in March, two months after Coyle had gone. What he never did was score key goals for us often enough, he netted eight and six of those came in defeats.

Good player but Steve Thompson deserved more of a chance after the previous season. He scored a few whenever he did get a chance too.

Absolutely. I really liked ST.
And that goal at Reading was a top drawer strike.

Yes, he had a goal given offside in a 1-1 draw. That night Wenger said all the big calls went against Arsenal

I've never understood the east Lancs expression of 'Bold or Boldie'. Never heard nor seen it written anywhere else.
The word is BALD or BALDY.
Anyway I'll give it a whirl if you sponsor me

Possibly because we hadn't played in the Premier League it was just a relief to buy someone different rather than a recycled has been.
I don't think at any stage he let us down and his goal return in side ripped apart by the shennanigans of some players after Coyle went was about average for a bottom 3 side.
