Cricket - Pathetic
Surprised not much on here given how big a fan everyone claims to be.
If anyone ever doubted how terrible a sport this is, this week summed it up.
Semi final of a World Cup. England v India. In India’s backyard. The biggest game of some of these guys career. And the game is abandoned before it’s started due to poor weather. Fair enough. Can replay it in a couple of days.
No. India go through. England go out. No match. No follow up.
Laughable.
How people buy tickets for this and spend days watching a game that may not even finish (or in this case start) is beyond me.
Got to feel for the team. Biggest game of their lives for many. And this is how it ends after years of preparation.

"India progress to Sunday's final after finishing top of Group A while England, who were second in Group B, are out."
I suppose you've got to have something to whinge about though, eh?

Re: Cricket - Pathetic
I follow women's cricket, I like the game. I've been watching most of the games in this competition in "India's backyard" (ie Australia, about 6,000 miles away from India).
I have a lot of sympathy for England who played below par in their first group game (thus finishing 2nd in their group) and didnt get to redeem themselves in the semi-final. However, as stated above, the rules of competitions are there to read and understand (and object to if you so wish) before the competition starts- so England can have no complaints.
I think Australia will beat India in Sunday's final. I spotted in today's news that Mitchell Starc is being allowed to leave Oz men's tour of S Africa to go and watch his Mrs (Alyssa Healy) play in that final. Aussies continuing to try and erase their bad-boys/win-at-all-costs reputation.

Distance from Delhi to Sydney 10,436 km
Earth is 24000 miles around ... 6000 is 25% of that
How many backyards gave a f**king Ocean to cross to get to the other side

Or why its so popular in The Indian Subcontinet with monsoon seasons, Australia with regular heatwaves, fires and it seems snowstorms, England that has 12 seasons in a day, Caribbean with Hurricanes.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 10:42 amWhat I dont understand is if good weather is so important to playing Cricket then why are they holding a big tournament in the middle of winter?

MAINLY US. Not exclusively.
The same dictionary has multiple definitions of the word point.
point noun
a particular place:
the point where the road bends
This is a good point from which to watch the race
point noun
an idea, opinion, or piece of information that is said or written:
I'd like to discuss the first point in your essay.
You made some interesting points in your speech.

Must admit mate that I have yet to see what the sport of cricket has to offer. It's all down to personal choice of course. But it does get a lot of TV coverage for a sport that struggles to get people through the gates. If you ever see a county match on telly there always seems to be huge gaps in the stands, which might have a lot to do with playing weekdays (rich mans sport?). Either way I have never been able to understand how anyone invented a sport that is boring AND dangerous.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 9:44 amSurprised not much on here given how big a fan everyone claims to be.

I was considered a decent fielder at school (couldn't do anything else worth a damn) so I often played in the team, which didn't please me, whoever thought that putting a fielder at silly mid-on was a good idea, spent most of my time ducking.

I was terrible at cricket. Didnt have the patience for it. And our school were very good at it allegedly.
I just stuck with the sports I was exceptional at. I was by far the most talented footballer but preferred watching Burnley. And I was an even better fisherman and still do plenty these days.
