Score v Man City

If football was a logical game we would beat City 4-0 according to previous results i.e. Man Utd 0 Burnley 2, Man Utd 2 City 0
The odds on City 0 Burnley 4 might be worth a £1 flutter....

If they beat Arsenal on Wednesday, they'll have a 10 point gap to third. I can see them then resting quite a few against us before they play Real Madrid.

With that in mind, I'll just go for a 2-0 defeat this time.

Good point. Could be set up for a really good game. Clarets will not roll over easily either unless there’s a couple of early City goals. I am going City 1 Clarets 2 with a last minute J-Rod piledriver.

I think this one is impossible to call. Generally and normally I would say another hiding from them because as well as being a brilliant side they are also our major bogey side, even when they were sh!te. But these are not normal times. They seem to have lost their way somewhat, whether it be because of the ban or just losing site of Liverpool (or both) I don't know. At the same time we are now playing some of the best football I've seen in years, we are scoring, we are defensively rock solid and we seem to have overcome our fear of playing the 'big 6' (United beaten and Spurs and Arsenal luckilly getting draws, all very recently). 7 games unbeaten and 2 of the 3 draws would have been wins on another day.

I still fear City - how can we not with our history against them, but I'm going to stick my neck out and say we will keep it tight, take no risks and hopefully come away with a 0-0. Anything better will just be an amazing bonus and anything worse will just be normal. :D :D

And if Arsenal beat Man City, we could actually be giving the title to Liverpool if we beat City. City will only be able to get 81 points if they lost to Arsenal and then us, with Liverpool already on 82.

Still sticking with the 3-0 defeat though, as they and Liverpool on a standard day are light years ahead of any other side.

City is a real bogey club for us. The last time I saw us beat City away was at main road in the charity shield back in 73.
We beat United away this season so who knows it might be the turn of City.
I would obviously take a point now, the way we are playing we are capable of an upset

Yeah, I read that a few weeks ago, they've just changed the date on the article.
The maximum City can get though now is 30 points as they have 10 games left. If they lose to Arsenal and then us, the most they can collect is 24, putting them on 81. Liverpool are currently on 82.

If Villa can almost snatch a draw despite being 2-0 then we can certainly get something, especially if John Stones is playing.

Does anyone apart from the most blue-eyed City fan actually believe City can catch Liverpool? Liverpool are the champions even now and anyone thinking otherwise is frankly deluding themselves. I think Liverpool could play the remaining games with 10 men, all reserves, and still win the title now. The lead is just too immense.

Wasn't the result at City in the Shield a draw? Didn't we have it for 6 months each?

I think it's been mentioned before that if the competition is decided via a peoples electronic vote and not a panel then the chances of a Clarets winner is just above 5% as for the City game 1- 2 UTC.

I think you've misunderstood. I'm not suggesting whether City can catch them - it's about the fact that we can officially confirm the winner if we beat Man City.

Precisely Bob. In other words it's a waste of time having the competition if only the clubs with glory hunting fans all over the world are going to have a chance.

It's okay bud, I wasn't suggesting you were, it's just that I've heard and read several things about what Liverpool need to become champions and it all seems a bit pointless given that they could now complete the job with Rochdales team probably.

We won 0-1. Colin Waldron scored from a free kick. I was there like I will be on Saturday, cheering our heroes on to victory ✌️

Collins dummied the free-kick - Casper floated a cross for Waldron to head home (he also scored our previous goal to that one at PNE! :))

I wasn't (or was I). Actually I think I might have been. Obviously didn't make much of an impression on me. Anyway you are quite right. Can't remember why it wasn't played at Wembley (in front of 100k) and was played at Main Road (in front of 23k). I know we qualified as second division champions (not normal). It was due to lack of interest from the then champions and the FA Cup holders. It was a bit of a hollow victory really because we shouldn't even have been in it. City played as the current holders of it, they shouldn't have been in it either. All a bit pointless really.

Now the Preston day out was an altogether different affair. One of my favourite away days ever with Burnley.
