Keep Calm And Carry On As Normal

I was in the supermarket today and suddenly found myself in Venezuela... In other words all the shelves stocking toilet roll had ran out.
Not wine or beer, but toilet paper.
Who needs it and who's panic buying it?
Ordinarily when one shops. whether you're ill or whether you're having a party etc. one buys naturally and somehow that seems to work.
If people just buy what they need when, then presumably whatever the virus spread is, when one come to buying for the present eventuality, THAT will be the natural USAGE OF THE PRODUCT BEST SUITED TO NEED.
Therefore everybody just buy what you need when you need it as usual and by nature of that, USUALITY CAN FUNCTION BEST FOR EVERYONE AS A WHOLE:

Enjoy your Saturday nght folks and keep calm and perhaps chat at by the rolls...

How many bog rolls does, say a family of four, get through in a week? 2, 3 ? So call it 8 tops to get that family through 2 weeks of isolation even if they can't get some delivered. Mass insanity. I could understand it if the virus gave you the shits !

I imagine families with teenage boys in isolation for two weeks will use record numbers of big rolls.

"All ok in Waitrose"
Not in the Waitrose at Crouch End, judging by the photographs of the store on The Guardian news website just now, showing a massive queue gathered outside awaiting entry to the store.

there is obviously a robotic, docile herd out there, no ability perceive any sense of anything but their own blinkered sense of greed and definately no idea of community spirit. it is these greedy ******** who are so insular and small minded. they are barely human.
same type that queue for 5p off petrol or diesel, but drive ten miles to get the bargain price. same species that would shove someone out of the way to get their grubby, unwashed mitts on the last loaf.
and sadly, this lot will prevail.

sooner the supermarkets introduce a limit the quicker the madness stops. If you've gone to a supermarket and bought 20 weeks worth of stuff you are a ******* **** and I would truly love to smash you with a baseball bat

I bought every single baseball bat JD Sports had in stock. I can sell you one for £100.
Agree with the sentiment though I was stunned by the idiots I witnessed in ASDA on Saturday totally selfish and it needs regulating.

By all means keep calm but let's not carry on as normal. To flatten this curve we have to do the simple things but do them well. Cover coughs and sneezes with tissues, throw away tissue and wash hands. If the backs of your hands and fingers are no needing moisturising cream you are not washing enough or properly.
No handshaking or the usual greetings kisses, cuddles and the thing I find the most difficult is not touching your face, sticking fingers near your mouth.
And yes Granny the general public has a lot to learn across all ages.

The whole bog roll thing is beyond me. I couldn't give a toss if I had none for a month if needs be. When I was a kid we used to use torn up newspaper. It works. Saw a ridiculous sight on Saturday while I was taking the dog to the vets in Acc. The Home Bargain shop next door had some toilet rolls it seems and there was a constant steram of people coming out with, in some cases, trolley loads of the stuff. Why oh f*ckin why??? Problem was news got round and by the time I came out the car park was absolutely f*ckin gridlocked. I left the car and walked home with the dog (it was a lovely morning anyway) it only takes about half an hour, and went back to pick it up later when the bog roll maniacs had done with their feeding frenzy.
Incidentally later that day we did a normal shop at Tesco in Accrington and there was loads of stuff. A few things missing but nothing out the ordinary. there was even toilet rolls actually. It got me wondering if the ones affected are mainly the 'cheaper outlet's because there was no noticable difference at Tesco on Saturday.
One way to stop the virus sperading might be to shoot panic buyers - what do they think is actually going to happen?

Actually it's fine if you don't use a whole page - just a picture of a panic buyer will do. Seriously it doesn't block anything if you don't overdo it, if in doubt flush it twice.

It does block toilets because it doesn't breakdown the same way as toilet roll. I imagine the days when most people used newspapers, because of WW2 rationing, was when the vast majority had a long-drop toilet in their backyard.

Was in Aldi in Burnley this morning around 9:30 to do the regular shop. The car park was almost full, the odd space free. Inside shelves full, no shortages, no crazies stacking trolleys sky high. Business as usual. It did look like more people were staying at home and possibly working from home.
In town centre cafes, banks, shops open and a usual Number of people around for a Monday morning.
Life goes on.

Bog roll panic is for commoners. Plumber friend tells me he's installed more bidets in the last two weeks than the previous six months and that's pretty much his whole list of requests for quotes...

My Mrs wisely asked me not to go shopping on Saturday. I'd already been on Wednesday as I knew it'd be less busy and my tolerance level is low (lower than usual at present) and I have an extremely short fuse.
She told me it was horrendous and glad I didn't go as she knows how I'd have reacted to morons in the store. People stacking up trolleys and being abusive to each other and staff. She said she got a few nasty looks and the Mrs knows EXACTLY how I would have reacted to that. They'd have been levelled, regardless of age, gender or size. I am more than capable of handing out verbal and backing it up.
Maybe it'd take a few of these morons panic buying being knocked out for them to realise it's not appreciated or in any way decent towards your fellow man/woman.
We only ever go in for our weekly shop, nobody NEEDS any more than what they normally get.
Elderly neighbour went shopping and saw an aggressive person stocking up with packs of the multi-buy toilet rolls. The staff and security were dragging them out of their trolley telling them they need to be more respectful of others. Who needs 216 bog rolls for one trip?
The neighbour is retired himself, in the high risk category due to diabetes and had to traipse around several stores today just for a tin of bloody tomatoes!
It's ridiculous!

I was after some flour today, I mostly make my own bread and did a "granary type" loaf at the weekend and almost used that up, I called in Morrisons on the way to town late this morning to get a new bag and the whole flour shelves were empty bar one bag of Doves Farm buckwheat flour (goodness knows what you can knock-up with that but the other bags had gone anyway). Thankfully I'm well stocked with the flours I use most so no great problem. It's not like there's a factory-made bread shortage is there? My local convenience store seems to have plenty of baked stuff.
As well as paper products, I also noticed that the baked beans section was largely de-stocked, maybe that's why people need all that bog-roll.

To be fair the middle classes have been just as bad as the lower orders. While the risk of running low on super noodles and cheap pop weighs heavy on the underclasses ,the risk of running out of avacados, lobster and prosseco is equally as galling for the hordes of yummy mummy’s I had to step over in the M&S food store in Manchester today

Don't know why it started ( apart from the moron thing obviously) but I do wonder about the bulk buyers next move. Once they have filled their trolley with 3 months of bog roll do they think that's enough ? Or do they go back the next day and do the same again ? Surely even the thickies will stop and think " we might be overdoing this "
