A Credible Opposition Party

I was just wondering if there was a credible opposition party and shadow cabinet to assist in any way with the tumultuous decisions that are having to be made at this time and then I remembered that they are, of course, still in a period of ‘reflection’. Oh well, at least that makes me feel just so much better.

With such a majority at the GE the country decided that it did not need an opposition, that's electoral politics!

why have a credible opposition who will assist in times of trouble when you can have an opposition who snipe from the sidelines trying to make political gain out of it whilst having absolutely no responsibility or pressure on themselves?

Given that around 32% of those that voted did so for Labour and the Tories only increased their vote by little more than 1% it just shows how the FPTP disenfranchises a huge chunk of the population. This also gives the misleading impression to those that choose not to look any further than the end of their nose that huge numbers now want a Tory government. Less than half of voters actually voted Tory.

Amazing that we have a crisis like this with such a low level of politicians across the board in this country and an absolute moron in charge in America.

with such poor offering from the Tory party the results show beyond a shadow of a doubt how poor the Labour party leadership really were to the voters, maybe you should change your user name to Pinocchio because you obviously can not see past the end of it. I'm sure in selecting the new leadership Labour will have a completely different outlook but how some seem to be fighting this change hard, great mental attitude, if we keep doing the same it will change in our favour, we just need to be better with the news/internet and paper propaganda because that's the only reason we didn't win, read failed miserably.

I'm by no means convinced that we would have a better chance of successfully steering through this crisis, if we had a hung parliament like we had when May was "in charge". There was no evidence then of all parties willing to pull together - Labour saw its policy as to oppose everything that the government wanted to do. Would they still see it that way? I suspect so.

Difficult to bring down a government with their majority. The tories may well get shut of BoJo but that was always a possibility. Despite his big win they all know he’s a complete tool.

now come on guys, give him some credit, surely he would be all for one and one for all in that everyone should be equal, since it can't be we all don't catch it then we all should mingle well and ensure everyone has a share.

Of course there is the off chance that some might be more equal than others and therefore would shut the whole labour party away from carriers known and unknown who don't have comrade tattooed on there backside. Given that approach, once we reappear from Corvidaggedan the Labour party might have a chance at winning an election, yes, yes I know still doubtful I agree.

There was a study done about a decade ago which looked at people’s news sources and measured their actual knowledge of the world, over a period of time. Those who watched Fox News were found to know less about the world than even those who didn’t have a news source at all. It wouldn’t surprise me to find the same thing here with papers like the Mail or even the Telegraph (which my Tory father in law agrees has gone down the pan since the brothers Barclay bought it), From your cardboard cutout opinions on Corbyn and the left, I reckon you fall into that category.

Oh! You really don't know me AT ALL! I'll put this in simple terms. You're a Labour voter so I'll make it basic. Are you aware what Labour stands for? Can you understand those seven words. It's the number '7'' to clarify.

Austerity because of Labour, which happens EVERY TIME the Tories take over. Labour gets in based on false promises. Overspends, fails, Tories have to fix it. It's a story as old as time.
You really have to be thick to not understand. If the Tories are so bad. How did they manage to take stronghold Labour seats, not changed hands in 100 years? Jesus! You're either f*cking beyond thick of beyond f*cking help!'

I call ‘em as I see ‘em, and your braying triumphalism along with the “Corbyn is bad!” groupthink posits you as a Tory donkey. To be fair, you’ve been fed the “Corbyn is bad!” line every day since he became leader, and like any lie endlessly repeated, it’s become the truth for you. But don’t try to claim credit for critical thinking, because you haven’t displayed any.

Andrew,
for simplicity, because no one will convince you of anything and I gave up trying long ago, the title of the thread is very easily understandable and the same for all posting here. Therefore do you:

Believe there is a Credible Opposition Part in place today?

Believe that there will be a Credible Opposition Part in place after the new party leader election, plus to qualify who do you think it will be and what makes you think it will be for the future given where the party is today, wherever you think it is?

I appreciate your input and thoughts moving beyond the last few years and as to what you think the future holds, no discussion on any other party or person other than those for election to the labour leadership, plus as a bonus question do you think the labour leadership contest will be delayed due to the virus?

Oh Wow! You actually are brainwashed! I've thrown facts at you. You're suggesting I am biased. I mean really? I sat down with hundreds of Labour voters, I mean bloodline Labour. You know the type. They just can't think because they'll upset their Mum and Dad. You, basically. EVERY SINGLE ONE, bar none said they couldn't vote Labour. These were working class Labour stronghold **** basically. Hey! I'm middle class and Labour voters are to me. You've proved it btw! Well done!
So. Here's the thing. My Dad was staunch Labour. I mean STAUNCH! Labour and Unions almost destroyed this nation several times. My Dad became a Tory. Here's what I think. You're scared of Mummy and Daddy, scared of Grandpa and Grandma's opinions of you because you think for yourself.
Don't panic. It's common with Labour voters. VERY COMMON.
There is a cure. Education. What you meed to do first off. Actually understand history. Grasp the concept that they weren't right. Form your own opinions. It's a novel concept to Labour voters. I know but try.
I do have sympathy for Labour voters. They are largely part of a cult which comes from a family desire to not vote for anything that actually makes sense.
You have my sympathy.
It doesn't alter the fact the Tories decimated Labour courtesy of the Labour swing.

This point YOU KEEP AVOIDING ANSWERING!

Why is that?!

What you’re saying is reality as you know it (as it’s been fed to you by rightwing propagandists), is SO true, that you can’t accept anyone else might have a different take on things.

Austerity was a choice by the Tory coalition, and one that failed (note Johnson has reversed this policy). The economy had been hit by the financial crisis of 2008, which Labour didn’t cause. Both parties were wedded to financial deregulation, so Britain’s unpreparedness rests on both parties. You must be absolutely appalled by Johnson’s budget - all that money to be borrowed! :) I think you’re possibly too rabidly partisan to see how your party has gone from one direction to the opposite - while claiming competence and credibility, and again they’ve had press backing all the way (all those papers that screeched about Labour’s spending plans - and then cooing about Johnson’s bigger borrowing plans). I’m a Green Party member, by the way.
