I live on a small estate (30+ properties) and we are discussing how we can look after each other and especially our elderly friends.

It’s time for a little ‘wartime’ community spirit.

Shopping for elderly neighbours is easy to do. Making sure they have your contact details in case of emergency.

So I just wondered if anyone else is actioning this type of mutual support? But what else can we do?

Just done this for an elderly couple, however half the things on their list weren't available. World's gone mad - panic buying now at new levels at Tesco in York......

Having just returned from Aldi in Accy to find :-
No bread
No pasta
No eggs
No tinned soup.
Not to mention the very scarce bog-roll, thought I'd better pop round to my elderly neighbour & offer any assistance required. She may not take me up on the offer as she is quite independent, but at least I felt so much better her knowing help was on hand if needed.

We live on a largely middle aged street. By that I mean, our age, 45/47-mid 50's. Got a few older generation. Our specific worry is our neighbour down, but one. He is a diabetic and in his 70's. He doesn't have the internet and only has a sister who is equally aged. So we'll be keeping tabs on him and getting stuff online for him if it gets worse. We do anyway to be fair. He had a turn last year and we looked after him. He can talk for England and it get's annoying when we're doing a morning dog walk, grumpy from lack of caffeine. But we'll keep an eye on him. As far as I am aware. The other older people on the street all have family.

I think it's a wonderful idea, so far I think we are the eldest around us and we are good, might be a few of similar ages though so be a good idea to have a contact group for anyone to contact others, advise on illness etc.

We are rural and my nearest two neighbours are both in their late 80s. One has family about and one is alone. I visit him twice a week and he has home help Tues/Thurs. I asked him if he wanted us to shop for him but he likes that contact with humanity more than the risk of catching it. He’ll carry on as long as he can but we are here as his fall back.
